I signed up for a "Free" 6 week challenge. I was lied to by the manager Alex regarding the center's ability to adapt workouts for the limited range of motion in my right wrist. I made him aware of the issue prior to signing the agreement and he assured me it would not affect the workouts or my success in the challenge. 2 of the "trainers" told me the workouts were not their own and they had no idea how to make modifications. Only 1 trainer actually attempted to modify a workout. I was not instructed on how to use the "special" scale for weigh ins, the bathrooms were filthy with trash overflowing onto the floor each time I visited. I understand it was my issue for not getting more in writing before I signed a 1 year contract so I waited until May 27, 2024 to verify that my contract was indeed being cancelled more than 30 days before the end of the contract on July 6, 2024. I have not received any responses to my 2 emails or my phone call.Initial Complaint

In February, I admit, I signed up for a 6 MONTH CONTRACT. It was with unlimited group sessions. Since I work full time sometimes 55-60 hours a week, I realized right away this wasn't going to work for me. The manager, Alex ******* offered no sympathy and once again convinced me that I could change it to a personal training session once a week. Never once did he say anything about CHANGING IT TO A 12 MONTH PROGRAM. No disclosure at all. So when I sent my letter, following the instructions on how to end my gym membership, with more than a 30 day notice in writing to him, through email and I dropped it off also when he was not there. I waited for a call, then since I was getting no reply, I called him to confirm he received my cancellation. Wow, I don't know how people sleep at night. He said, when you switched from group to personal sessions, I changed to a 12 month contract. He knew **** well what he was doing. I should not have to wait another 6 months and pay for something I did not sign up for. He is very smooth at turning it around acting like its all for my benefit. What a SCAM!!Initial Complaint

I signed up for Anytime Fitness membership in 2022. I utilized the facility for 2-3 months before canceling my membership. I had cancelled my membership with an employee who has since been fired for not canceling members memberships. Now in 2023 I have been sent to collections for $489. When I went to the Avon location a staff member had told me I need to buy a new membership package and he will call the credit bureau and say it was a mistake. He implied that it was the only way he could fix my credit. He admitted it was their mistake that they did not cancel the membership and they did not try to contact me because it was simply not their job. Their collection company called me from a Un-marked caller I’d, which I do not answer. They left no voice mails and I received no letters. Then I recently checked my credit and saw it was down and there was a collection. So, I called a couple times and finally got ahold of Alex . He invited me down and assured me we would take care of it. He informed me I did owe them more money which I was fine with, but I was not informed. Nor did I have the opportunity to pay it. He proceeded to tell me that I just had to take a hit to my credit unless I bought a new membership. Then they changed it to a personal trainer. The point was as long as I spent money there, he would call and get it figured out for me. Well I did not trust him because he kept changing it. He finally said that as long as I pay for a membership for 100 bucks for someone else as a gift. Then we would call and fix it. So I left, asking many people many questions. Well I started questioning him when on the phone. He got very angry and said that as long as I pay them the money my credit will be fixed and he was doing me a favor. If not my credit would still be dinged and I had to deal with it. They admitted they were in the wrong but I had to deal with the consequences. I read google reviews, this is not the first time this happened. Thank you very much.Initial Complaint

I am currently a member of Anytime Fitness in Avon, Ohio. I relocated from the Avon area and the area I moved to doesn't have any Anytime Fitness locations that are convenient for me, so I would like to cancel my membership. I completed my initial 12 month membership contract and am now month to month so I should be able to cancel without any fees. I have emailed Anytime Fitness in Avon, Ohio multiple times. I have called and left a message expressing my desire to cancel my membership but my call was not returned. I have contacted *** ******* (the company which handles billing for Anytime Fitness) and they have informed me that they are unable to assist in any way and that cancellation must be done through my Anytime Fitness Club. It seems as if Anytime Fitness is intentionally ignoring all of my attempts to contact them so they can continue to bill me indefinitely. My desired outcome is for Anytime Fitness to cancel my membership and stop charging my credit card.Business response

On 5/19/2022 I met with a fitness trainer/manager to discuss a 6 week fitness challenge that was advertised geared towards age 60 and older. I signed a contract that stated I would get a full refund in the amount of $600 if I completed the challenge. I completed the 6 week challenge on 7/1/22. While completely happy with the results from the challenge I elected not to join the membership and requested a full refund/credit as promised to my credit card. Its been 10 weeks and I have not received the refund. I last spoke with the trainer/manager (Patrick ********) on 8/25/2022 to explain that I had not received the refund as promised. He told me that after reviewing my account that he had processed the refund, however had not put in the credit card number; he then stated he would process the credit card for the refund 8/25/2022. It is now 9/12/2022 and I have not received the credit to my credit card and I have called numerous times and left messages...no one returns my calls. What began as a great challenge is now a great disappointment to say the least.
