Programs
Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio operates the Second Harvest Food Bank in Springfield, Ohio, providing meals and assistance to food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in Clark, Champaign, and Logan counties. Second Harvest also offers emergency assistance for rent, utilities, and other needs for the poor and vulnerable when funds are available. With trained and licensed counselors and a psychiatrist, Catholic Charities offers individualized care for those working through emotional difficulties because of stress, family relationships, parenting, behavioral problems, self-esteem, addiction, or grief and loss. The organization offers individual, couple, family, and group counseling, as well as in-home counseling for older adults or physically disabled individuals. According to the organization, in 2019, the Second Harvest Food Bank provided 4,169,800 meals to Clark, Champaign and Logan counties.Catholic Charities serves refugees who come to the United States through the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Refugees can come from extreme poverty, violence, or religious or political persecution in their homeland and Catholic Charities assists with resettlement with the goal of becoming self-sufficient and acculturate into American society. Services for those resettling include English for Speakers of Other Languages, housing, transportation, connection with social support services, health assessments and connection to healthcare, employment connections, interpretation, and legal and immigration assistance.The Su Casa Hispanic Center serves Hispanic and Latino individuals seeking a better life for themselves and their families, working to provide self-sufficiency for the poor and vulnerable of this immigrant community. In addition to emergency assistance services, such as financial and material assistance, food assistance, employment referral services, and domestic violence education, Su Casa provides English for Speakers of Other Languages, computer and GED classes, tutoring, and citizenship classes. This program offers specific services for children who have immigrated with no parents and single-parent households, such as case management, needs assessments, service planning, and referral for other services.Catholic Charities offers programs for those 55 and older through multiple programs, including the Foster Grandparent program, Senior Companions, the RSVP program, and mental health services tailored to the issues unique to the aging process. Catholic Charities also offers a Caregiver Assistance Network for those caring for their aging loved ones. The organization also supports parents with programs designed to offer information and provide support, including: parenting education classes, the Incredible Years program, and the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation and Training program.
