I was selling my home so the home was vacant while trying to sell it. The buyers that were going to purchase the home had an inspection done on my chimney by Vonderhaar Roofing company. The technician that inspected the chimney left the damper open which allowed a squirrel to get into my home and damage some of the wood around my windows. The damage cost me $3,000 and I would like to get my money back for this damage. The buyers who hired Vonderhaar Roofing ended up not purchasing the home so the home was still vacant when the squirrel got in. Vonderhaar Roofing is denying that they left the damper open and they state they have pictures showing that they closed the damper, however they refuse to send me a copy of their report or a copy of the pictures they have proving that the damper was closed before leaving the inspection site. The Cincinnati Wildlife took before and after pictures of the chimney and I provided that report to Vonderhaar Roofing. but they are saying That the old style lock top damper could have opened when animal was pulling on it. I lived in this home 8 years and I have never had any animal get in my home through the chimney. They also stated that the damper was partially opened when they got there so if the damper was partially opened and they say they closed it completely than how would the squirrel get into the home in the first place. The home was vacant and there was never any other inspections done on the home after Vonderhaar Roofing inspected the chimney. I did not leave the damper open to my chimney, and I should not have to pay $3,000 for damage caused by company inspecting my property. . Vonderhaar Roofing keeps stating they didn't do any work on the chimney but no one did any work on the chimney because the house was sold AS IS and Vonderhaar Roofing was the only company who had access to the chimney.

We accept no responsibility for any animal getting into a vacant home. We left  fireplace in exact way we found it.  We only did an inspection.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.
I do not accept their response. They did an inspection on the chimney and quoted over $10,000 worth of repair, yet they didn't touch the damper? Also, they put a video camera down the chimney during inspection, but didn't have to remove the damper?

Any camera  inspection is done from the bottom through the firebox.  So the cap was not  removed   Our customer was the potential buyer who backed out of deal because of condition of the  fireplace and chimney that we did an inspection at the time.   Nothing we did altered the fireplace or chimney   This person was not a customer of ours and is trying to get us to pay for a repair to window frame based on the animal removal services comments. The chimney needed a significant amount of work from being neglected for many years.   There were other people who came into their house after we did inspection

The only inspections ever done on my chimney were by your company. I used your quote to disclose to the new buyers the problems the chimney had because I did not have enough time to get another inspection done.

I lived in this house 8 years without any animal getting in, and especially getting in through the chimney.

I find it unbelievable that a company of your size refuses to take responsibility and tries to place blame on others.

You've blamed the squirrel and said it pulled on the damper. You blamed someone else for opening it, you even blamed the chimney itself because it needed work.

Please stop blaming everyone else, we are all human and make mistakes, your company isn't exempt from that, you make mistakes too. I'm just asking you to make it right.

Chimney work was completed and was not done as outlined in contract. I have paid for the work that was done correctly. The brick and mortar do not match the house and staining was used as part of the repair process (picture attached). Staining was not outlined in the contract. The contractors have come unannounced and during times when they were not scheduled. The owner also came unannounced and did not respond to communications. I have requested to discuss possible solutions to the matter and the owner is pursuing a lien on the house.

Contract is with Geoff S.  Customer works 3rd shift and not easy to contact.  Partner of company has spoken to Mr. ********* In regard to chimney and clarified the rebuild. The mortar joints were tinted  to help blend in with existing joints but not the brick.  As the new rebuild ages the mortar joints will age as well.   Closest available brick match is used as this brick is not made any longer.

We let customer know they were next in rebuild list.  We do not give time when we will show up or leave, just day projects will start. .  It is all exterior work.  We are not entering customers house.  Masons are doing multiple jobs at same time and are going in between jobs.  Contract stated we would rebuild top 10 courses and pour formed crown, which was completed.

We apologize if customer expected to be notified when we came and left property but they should have been aware we were coming to do project.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ** ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

Geoff S is in fact the person who the contract is under. ***** is my husband. Geoff will proceed with a complaint if that is what is expected. Of note, all payments made thus far for the work that has been completed were sent in by my via check and cashed by the company, not by *****. ***** started third shift after work was completed by the company. Work was completed in August, October, and December of 2021 and ***** started third shift in March of this year. There were no attempts to contact us outside of providing us with bills for work that was not completed. Furthermore, staining was not discussed in the contract for mortar or for brick.
