I have been a member of ITEX for a numbers of years. My experience with them has been ok up to now When I closed my business, I was going to walk away from my unused ITEX trade dollars (nearly $6000). ITEX members trade goods & services for “trade dollars”. When those trade dollars are spent on other member’s goods & services, ITEX charges a 10% “real dollars” fee When I indicated I would just walk away. ITEX contacted me and offered to let me pre-pay my 10% “real dollars” fee for the unused portion of my trade dollars. I was told I would be able to use the trade dollars any time and the agreement would not expire nor incur additional fees. So I paid ITEX $622.29 in cash to keep my account open. I found things to spend the trade dollars on and managed to spend down to $2480. My statement on 6/18/2020 showed my balance was $2480.48, no association fee being charged with a cash credit balance of $248.04. My statement on 7/16/2020, I start seeing a $30 monthly association fee being charged along with a $3 purchase fee for “spending” $30 in trade dollars on the association fees. I have tried multiple times to contact them and cancel my account and have the unused portion of the money I paid ($248.04) returned. I have been told to call the corporate office, which I did. The corporate office told me each local office is independent and can adjust as they see fit. When I called the local office, I was told that is not true. So I kept getting bounced back and forth all the while my “real money” account kept dwindling What ITEX is doing has the same “feel” as a store selling you a gift card, then charging fees until the card is completely depleted and the customer received nothing for their money Now I cannot get anyone from ITEX Columbus to respond to me. It’s sad it has to come to this, but I feel like there is no other recourse than to post this on BBB and hope someone will contact me to help resolve this issue
