I brought my car in for transmission work off a referral from AAA. I’ve now received my car back 3 times and each time it will not shift past 5500 rpm’s. I keep returning it and get some explanation and assured they road tested it and it’s all good. Yet somehow every time I get a mile down the road I notice issues. How it breaks for me but not them I’ll never understand.Business response

Mr. ******* was referred by AAA. Had check engine light with codes p0741 tcc off, p0730 gear ratio error, p0734 gear ratio 4th, p2784 input speed sensor.
A Team sent him an estimate via email and repairs were approved. Delivered Jeep 6/30/2023. He returned on 7/3/2023 with a check engine light and code p0741. Replaced tcc solenoid with new mopar and returned to customer. We stated that we must have got a defective solenoid. He said, “why would you give me back my car with defective parts!” I told him bad parts occasionally happen and again apologized. Customer immediately returned with vehicle and said, “I made it to the 1st exit and it's fucked up.” Check engine light was on again, with the same code- p0741. He than stated that if we can't fix it he wants his money refunded. He then told me he “bills at 250.00 per hour and I've already cost him over a 1000.00.” I told him that I was sorry for the problem he was having and he told me, “Sorry doesn't cut it.” I told him I couldn't authorize a refund. He wanted to know who could. I told him the owner was out of town for the holiday. I called him Wed the 5th with an update that we had checked the solenoid that was replaced, monitored the signals from the tcm to make sure signal was being sent to apply the converter clutch. Everything looked good, although to be over precarious, we called him on the 6th and let him know that we had removed the transmission and inspected everything previously done and the jnside of the transmission looked brand new good. Replaced torque converter as possibly it seemed to maybe be the culprit, even though it appeared functioning as it should. We told him we wanted to keep until the next day to drive it cold and make sure all was good. We drove it multiple times with no issues. I had the Jeep delivered back to his house via Johnson's towing. He apologized, “ For being a Dick”, and said his father was suffering from Dementia. I told him I was sorry for the problems and I was sure it was right this time. Later he emailed and sent a video, and left voicemail. It was after hours by this time. I returned the call Monday 7/10/2023 at 8 am. In his email, the check engine light was not on. I asked him about the video not having check engine light on. He said no check engine light on. I said may not be the transmission with no light. He said “bullshit you're not going to go there. I want my transmission fixed or I'll sue.” The multiple times I spoke with him I was courteous and never raised my voice. I had the Jeep towed back in 7/10/2023. We drove the vehicle multiple times on Monday with no issues. Had the technician who rebuilt the transmission drive the Jeep home Monday. No issues. We’ve put on about 40 miles since his last return to confirm concern. Everything appears to working normal. There are no codes present in any module and the transmission works as designed, and no check engine light as well. We aren’t sure what could possibly be going on. May be transmission related or not. Regardless, we can’t duplicate the issues, so we are taking to the Jeep dealer- Bob Caldwell- for a second opinion at our expense. We should know within a few days what the diagnosis is. April 2022- we purchased a vehicle from an individual. He had transmission work done on March 15th, 2022. When we purchased the vehicle he advised us of the transmission work that was done and told us he told the manager of A Team Transmissions he was selling the vehicle. He asked the manager of A Team Transmissions if the warranty would transfer to us and he told him yes. When we purchased the vehicle he gave us a binder of all the work done on the vehicle. He also gave us the receipt for the transmission in case we had issues. December 14th, 2022 the transmission broke. On the bottom of the receipt it states A TEAM WARRANTY ON REPAIR IS 12 MONTHS OR 12.000 MILES UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTATED*. I called A Team Transmissions and advised them of the issue. The manager had the owner call me. He told me we HAD to get it to Columbus in order for them to fix it which required us to tow it 2 hours away on our own dime. On A Team Transmissions website it states they have a nationwide warranty through ****. I called **** to get their warranty info and they told me we could take our vehicle anywhere who covers ****. I called the owner back with **** on the phone and the owner told **** our vehicle isn’t covered through them. The **** rep advised us our vehicle was never registered through them. The owner advised us that the warranty was only through their shop. After going back and fourth with the owner-him screaming at me and the **** rep and not letting me speak-he told me he was no longer honoring the “warranty” and will not fix our vehicle. He kept changing the warranty stipulations through out the phone call and making it up as we were speaking. No where in our papers does it state the warranty does not transfer. We now have a vehicle that does not have a properly working transmission after it was fixed 9 months ago. We took the vehicle to 2 different repair shops - 1 being a **** repair shop - to get 2 different opinions and they both said the transmission is bad .Business response

We certainly apologize for any inconveniences. Please, allow me provide the facts.
1) The transmission was originally done for a wholesale/fleet customer. Then the car was sold to you at a later date.
2) The warranty that we offer our fleet customer is only covered locally here in Columbus.
3) We offered to cover under warranty if you would have been able to bring to us here, and yes, we understand you are in Cleveland. The tow bill is significantly less expensive than a transmission repair.
4) Unfortunately your unwillingness to be amicable in this situation, speaking untruths regarding **** (as we are waiting for the telephone transcripts to allow the public to hear your fabrications) ) and the conversation with them, then speaking derogatory to myself and my team, we've decided to honor the fact that you're not the original customer who paid for the repair, nor is your name on the repair order, and our warranty is not transferable.
We certainly apologize that you decided to rescind our original offer we made to do the repairs.

Again, please, please stick to facts, and not assumptions. I suppose I'll go over this again.
1) You demanded we repair your transmission in Cleveland. We explained there isn't a nationwide warranty. You continued to demand. We offered to repair locally, should you bring down to us. You continued to demand repairs to be completed in Cleveland.
2) After **** explained there isn't a warranty, you continued to demand repairs in Cleveland. It was stated to you that we wont, simply by way of local warranty only.
3) After you posted 1 star review for the service you were not a recipient of, receive, pay for, or never being our customer, we chose to honor the fact that you aren't our customer, and your name is not on the repair order, and we would not extend any repairs.
3) Purchasing a vehicle that's had repairs done in the past does not make warranties assumable or transferrable. You continue to say it isn't documented otherwise, so it must be assumable. Its not documented that the warranty is either-- and in the 15 years of business, we have never had to contend with this type of issue. It would seem that most consumers understand a used car purchase is what it is. A used car purchase. Unless it is documented that warranties are transferrable, then they are. If there isn't any documentation, or statement in print, its common sense that it isn't. There are no assumptions based off of personal perception. Just like the nationwide warranty that is not applicable here.
4) Heres the deal. Should you want to bring your car in to our store, we will gladly repair the transmission as a courtesy, not under warranty-as you do not have a warranty- on one condition. You would remove the 1 star review for service you never received, or paid for, and please bear with us. It may take 3-4 weeks or so to repair. That is the repair timeline for our current customers. The review has to be removed prior to arrival. Thank you.

Transmission went out on consumer's VW and her regular mechanic recommended A-Team. They claimed they put in a new transmission but in less than a week, the car would not move. She took it back and they said the problem was a driver issue, not the transmission. She is used to driving a stick shift and has for years. They say it's her fault. She called them to pick it up which they did but expect her to pay for another new transmission. She's already paying $800 a month through the business' finance co. and can't afford another payment. She feels she is not at fault and they should replace the transmission at their expense. She has no car now and no transportation.Business response

Customer picked up vehicle after a 9 mile road test by A Team. We did not replace the transmission. We installed a new clutch assembly. Clutch operation verified by technician and passed quality control inspections. Vehicle was picked up by customer on 1/28/2022. Customer called 2/14/2022 and stated car was stuck on sidewalk in the snow, and couldn't get it out. Stated she was very stuck and tried to get out. On 2/17/2022 customer called again stating that couldn't get car home and needed it towed. There was a bad winter storm which occurred during this time and roads were very bad. The customer drove the car a total of 59 miles since clutch was replaced. I expressed concern that getting the car stuck could cause damage to the clutch as a result from being stuck. Customer stated she had driven stick shifts before and never had a problem. I told her that if it was a part failure or installation error we would cover it. We determined it is NOT an installation error, and is a result of getting the car stuck and attempting to get off of the sidewalk out of the snow, and clutch is completely destroyed, not defective.
At this point, we don’t have any way of having the manufacture cover the destroyed clutch due to cause of failure. I would like to ask the BBB what they would think are some amicable options to assist in this matter? We would love to assist and help our customer. At the same time, this responsibility does fall on our customer, not on A Team. Looking forward to hearing options.Thanks.

Per phone conversation with consumer:
She was driving down Broad Street, trying to get to James Rd. and her car stalled on the way. She started it again. She almost got to James Rd. and got to the BP Station. She pulled in because she was afraid and her car stalled again. She started it again and she was unable to get the car to move forward or backwards. She had two men there that helped her to move the car close to the building and she called the business. She was told to leave the car, with the keys in it, and they would get it. She was stranded there and had to call a cab. When the business called her, they said she damaged the car and they were not going to cover the clutch. She stated that there was no snow that day and she was nowhere near stranded on anything. She would not have driven it in the snow because she felt that it was unsafe in the snow.

Per phone conversation with consumer, she would like to proceed with having the shop take the transmission out and determine if it's a manufacturers defect or not. She is determined that she only has 159 miles on this transmission, was not ever stuck since she had the car serviced and believes that the business is responsible for this. She feels she is being taken advantage of and if the transmission is not defective she will take her car elsewhere to be fixed. Please keep me updated with status of claim.

Per phone conversation with Sean, the clutch assembly does not have a manufacturer's defect. What was found is proof that consumer is not fully engaging or fully releasing the clutch, therefore overusing or "smoking" the clutch. He is willing to replace at a 10% discount to the consumer. Offered to road test car with consumer after it is fixed to make sure consumer is using clutch properly so that this doesn't happen again.
