Windbender installed a new minisplit system for us. It immediately leaked and did not work. Over the next year they were out repeatedly to "fix" the system but it continued to leak and stop working. They were unable to repair it after multiple visits. After one year, they said it wasn't their problem anymore and would start charging us to repair it. When they came out the last time they said there was no leak. "What is wrong then, I asked. "It's out of refrigerant." "But there's no leak I asked?" "Yes, he said, no leak." They then said that if we wanted then to find the leak (that supposedly didn't exist) it would cost us $2800 + $220 for the drive. This is a new system still under factory warranty. The new owner of Windbender said he would not be responsible for anything he did not install. He offered to sell us an entirely new system. The new owner refuses to even look at or work on this system that his company, Windbender, installed incorrectly. So we have a new system that has never worked correctly, does not work now, and the company that installed it refuses to repair or replace it under its warranty. This company is dishonest, unethical, and they will not do the right thing if they can wiggle out of it.Wind Bender Heating Cooling Plumbing LLC. Response

I am sorry for the unfortunate experience you had with the previous owners. Unfortunately, I cannot warranty work done by the previous entity three years before I acquired the company for free. I regret we could not come to an equitable solution for both parties. I wish you all the best.Customer Response

The original installation was three years ago; the product failed from day one. The last supposed "repairs" WERE NOT three years ago. You are obviously no better than the previous owners and will not do the RIGHT thing by your customers if you can avoid it. AND the system is STILL under factory warranty. There is NO reason you cannot meet that responsibility since your company installed it. The "equitable solution" you suggest might include not screwing people out of thousands of dollars and leaving them without AC and heat.Review from Billie B

Wind Bender was sent in by our home warranty company to assess our ac. The tech came and banged around on our unit, turned on the condenser, told me it needed to be replaced and left. He also told me my entire HVAC system needed to be replaced - the heat was not even in question. The next thing I know, I get an estimate for well over $10k from Wind Bender. I then find out from my home warranty company that they have deducted $300 from our allowance for the ac replacement due to the "repair" that Wind Bender charged them for! I told the warranty company that Wind Bender absolutely did NOT perform any repairs, and the warranty company could've cared less. At this point, I would not EVER do business with Wind Bender and I have fired my warranty company, as well.Wind Bender Heating Cooling Plumbing LLC. Response

Hi Billie - I am sorry to hear that you had an unfavorable experience with our company from your perspective, however after reviewing the situation I stand behind our assessment. I tried to call you personally after the technician left your home to discuss options with you but you did not return my call. We were sent out by your home warranty company after another company had already added refrigerant to your AC system and it leaked out. Our technician performed an electronic leak search (hence why your allowance with your home warranty was reduced). The technician found numerous leaks in both your condensing coil and evaporator coil from where the previous company had added UV dye to the refrigerant. Given the age of your system was 22 years old and condition of the system reflected that age we recommended a complete replacement to your home warranty company. I am unable to upload pictures to this platform but I will send them to you directly via email or text message. The technician submitted pictures of your furnace with significant rusting in the burner assembly and heat exchanger. When this happens it compromises the integrity of the metal and poses an increased risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to inhabitants of that home. That is why the technician recommended replacing the furnace along with the AC unit. I would recommended taking this diagnosis seriously as it is a health and safety risk. For the reasons mentioned above I stand behind our technicians assessment and I am proud of the thorough inspection that he performed on your whole system. I tried to call you before responding here but you did not answer. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly regarding your experience. We are a quick phone call away and please ask for Matt. Matt Near, Owner Wind Bender Heating Cooling Plumbing LLCReview from Diane J

The tech who came to perform the spring A/C check-up loosened the service valve and cap on the suction line and then was going to charge me $1900 to replace the leaking valve and replace the missing refrigerant. The A/C had been working fine and the tech was acting fishy so I got a second opinion for $75 who just tightened the valve and replaced the refrigerant that had escaped. Wind Bender Mechanical created the problem and then was going to charge me $1900 to tighten the valve and replace the refrigerant. Such a scam.Wind Bender Heating Cooling Plumbing LLC. Response

On 5/26/2023, our technician went out to do the annual A/C inspection on the equipment. At this time, the technician found that the suction line service valve was leaking from the top of the valve, found by removing the cap off the top of the valve. There is oil pooled in the area, which indicates a leak. He then went over that and sent an estimate to replace the service valve which includes opening the refrigeration circuit. So for the repair we would: recover the remaining refrigerant, replace the service valve, and then install a filter drier (which we do anytime you open the system to help get any particles that may be in the lines), then we vacuum the line set to make sure everything is holding a vacuum and there is no leaks, then we recharge the system with fresh refrigerant. He also recommended adding locking caps to the unit which is to bring the unit up to current county code, they require locking caps on the outdoor units. I have attached pictures of the data plate and the suction line service valve with the cap off which you can see the oil pooled on the top area of the valve under the screw on service cap. We do feel as though we did our best to provide the best service possible. I cannot speak to the other company out, I can say that with what my technician has recorded, the top of the service valve is leaking and that cannot be repaired by just tightening and putting the cap back on and filling the unit back up with refrigerant. We believe that the unit will continue to leak until the valve is replaced. We have tried to contact the customer to address her concerns by text as well as by phone. The customer had texted us on June 14th that she was upset with the service, we called her with no response, so then we texted her to have her call us as we do not tolerate any kind of dishonesty in our company and would like to discuss it further. We also resent the report with the pictures to her again. which she responded only by text. We then texted and asked her if we could send the owner out to address her concerns. We also called again and left another voicemail. That is when she texted us that she had another technician out and told us their response. We again asked her if we could have our technician and our owner out to go over the failure that we found and confirm what they repairs need to be. We asked that she contact us, which she has not called us back the multiple times we have tried to call to address her issues. We have left at least three voicemail messages and texted her which she has only responded by text a couple of times.
