I own a 09 Malibu, on April 6, 2022 I took my car to ******** Auto & Tire. My car was making a whining and rattling noise. At that time it didn't whine or rattle as loud, **** ******** owner, listened to the car and said even though it wasn't whining that he could here metal churning in the engine and that this could be the result of the timing chain going bad. **** explained the history of the engines put in the Chevy Malibu and I learned about them from past owners. The Chevy Malibu has a history of the timing chain going bad or breaking after 100+ mileage and destroying the engine which we both agreed upon. Then I explained to him that I didn't want to buy a new car or replace the engine but instead he could replace the timing chain to avoid destroying the engine cause I've never any issues with my engine since I've owned the car and he said OK. When I picked up the car and drove off the lot the oil light came on, my oil light has never came on since I owned the car, and it was making a whining noise. I turned around and took it back to the shop and when I returned it wasn't making the noise and oil light was off, He said just keep driving it to see if it work itself out. Over a period of a week I've been back to his shop telling him that something is wrong with my car. Instead of him telling me not to drive it and bring it in so that he could look it to make sure that nothing is wrong he said again just drive it and we'll see. On April 22, 2022 I drove the car to ******, on the way my oil and check engine lights came on then my engine begin to knock. I called **** when I was on the side of the road that my car was having problems to see if it was OK to keep driving it he said he didn't know cause he wasn't there. When I made it to ****** I was taking my car to a shop to see if it was OK to drive it back home when the engine jumped timing and shut off . The mechanic said the timing chain was installed improperly which cause it to jump time and destroy my motor.

customer had the timing chain replaced because it was making noise, had multiple engine codes for timing being out spec and when we tore it apart found that timing pieces were broken and needed replaced. also, when we opened up the engine, we found that the engine had been poorly maintained and had an unbelievable amount of sludge built up in the engine. I advised the customer that the engine was severely sledged up and it needed to have a cleaner ran in it and then rechange to oil to try and clean up the engine sludge, not pour cleaner in it and drive it over two away. when I picked up the car to bring it to the shop, it was overfilled on oil and the engine is tied up. we removed the spark plugs and valve cover to find that no valves are bent or broken, and the timing is still intact and installed correctly. the engine has seized a bearing on crank from most likely a poorly maintained engine that has built up sludge and or being overfilled on oil which the customer said he added more oil.
