Matt J**** came out on Sunday, March 6 2022 to give us an estimate on building a small front deck on our house. We received his written quote on Monday, March 7 for $3772.50, asking for 50% in advance for materials. We agreed and paid the $1886 in a personal check on March 10. Matt cashed it via a check cashing business on Fri, March 11. We agreed for the work to begin on Monday, March 14. Monday morning at 6 am Matt texted from a different phone number stating he would be at our house soon. After that we were unable to reach him until about 3 pm when he told us he had car trouble and couldn't make it. By this point we had become very insecure of dealing with him after finding out his reviews were mainly fake and he was shutting off phone numbers and ignoring our attempts to reach him. We canceled the job and asked for our deposit back, which he agreed to and said he would return to us on Tues, March 15. On Tues he then texted and said he would have to give it back the following Mon, March 21. Again, we agreed. Now it is Weds, March 23 and he has stopped responding to any attempt to reach him, we have not gotten our money back, no work was completed by him at all, and we have lost $1886.
