To Whom It May Concern: RECEIVED FEB 26 2024 On approximately December 3, it was discovered that my hard drive on my computer had been damaged after it fell on the floor. Distraught beyond measure, on December 8, I contacted a computer repair business that I found online that looked very professional and which gives a location reasonably close to my home (Hey Nerd Fix It, (link redacted). I called their number on a Friday and spoke with a man who said he would come by and pick it up and could probably have it back to me by Monday. This person's first words to me were that it would cost me about $500.00, a price I was willing to pay for data recovery as it was akin to having my computer held hostage. Two weeks later on December 19, 2023, I texted him to get an update and was told he was "still working on it." I again texted him on January 19 to inquire about the status of my hard drive and did not receive a response. Now, it is a month later, February 18, and I have heard nothing from this business. Three months in all for a job I was told could be done, most likely, over a weekend. This is very unprofessional and totally unacceptable and very worrisome as I trusted this person with my digital life, as it were, and have had only two cryptic texts from him since he picked it up from my home. Now, I am worried about all my personal information, including tax statements and other financial information getting into the wrong hands. I have no idea what happened to my hard drive. And, obviously, we have spent a lot of time ferreting out files and rebuilding my database. It has been frustrating, heartbreaking in some instances, and very time-consuming. I no longer have need of the recovered data, for the most part, and can get by without what is missing. Now, I just want to report that this process has been devastating and, as far as I am concerned, totally unethical on this company's part. I hope that no one else relies on them as they cannot be trusted to follow through, to inform their clients about what they are doing, or to even answer text messages to obtain a status of the work they were supposedly doing. BBB called business for a response and were told by the owner's husband Mr. ******* that he had returned the hard drive to the customer b/c he could not retrieve any data from it.Customer response
