An insurance broker claiming to work for Fortress Insurance Group, has now twice (once last year and now this year) cancelled our health insurance through the Marketplace and then filled out a new application for insurance. It has left us with a gap in our coverage and has cost us in covered doctor's visits and pharmaceuticals needed for our health. When I looked the Fortress Insurance Group up online to call, to verify if this agent worked for them, the number given does not work. It claims that I cannot call that number from my area. Contacting the Central Ohio BBB, they were able to give me a local number for this business. The name of the person claiming to be our broker, was on the answering message for the business. We have never given any insurance broker or Fortress Insurance Group the permission to change our insurance.Business response

Hi ****, this is ****** ***. I am your agent with Ambetter. I called and left you a voicemail just now to try to get to the bottom of this. Let me start by saying I have never canceled anyone’s insurance for any reason. last year you had ambetter essential care number five.From my records on health care.gov that Policy was never canceled. It was effective all year. Then for this year your plan was renewed to ambetter everyday bronze EPO. I would very much like to get to the bottom of this and figure out what happened. I am very sorry to hear that there was a gap in your coverage there could be a few different reasons for this. The main reason could be that another agent canceled your plan and rewrote it under their national Producer number the reason why people do this is so they get commissions on those plans. The way that healthcare.gov is currently set up the only information an another agent needs is your first name your last name your date of birth and what state you live in and they can cancel or terminate your insurance coverage or they can change your insurance coverage without your knowledge. Currently there is nothing you can do to change that however, the federal government is trying to put protections in place beginning 2024 that would curb some of those actions by bad agents in the marketplace. The cancellation notices came in an email back in August 2022. I do not have the email any longer. I thought this was behind us. Had no idea he would do it again. And I can not get a copy of the current application. I go online with the Marketplace and once the application is accepted you can not access it again. I do not believe the BBB can help me with the resolution that I am looking for.
