I do not remember exactly when I initiated a business relationship with **** at Caudill's Lawn Equipment. However, I did ask him to look at a used riding mower that I had and to let me know if it was worth fixing. He agreed. The next contact I received from him was on 2/3/22, and an invoice via text for $448.45. He had repaired the mower without consulting me. This was not what I had asked for or what we had agreed upon. When I contacted him, he was surprised that no one had called me. He then attempted to justify the expense of repairs. I asked him to hold the mower until I figured out what to do. A few days later, someone dropped the mower off in my driveway with the keys in the ignition. I was not home, nor was I contacted about this happening. I assumed that he understood his lack of communication to be an issue and he was making it right by returning the mower. It has been ten months since I spoke with him, and he has not reached out at any time. Today he contacted me via text message to inform me that he is sending me to a collection agency for the full amount of the invoice. I asked for one thing. I asked him to look at it and tell me if it was worth fixing. He agreed to those terms, and I understood that I would be contacted before he began work on the mower. The invoice states: "Work to be Done: Needs battery to start May have other problems Bring back and identify problems." The Symptoms and descriptions portion of this invoice clearly states that we were identifying and advising. I was never advised. His own work order does not state to do any repairs beyond adding a battery. I can not be convinced that he could not observe ANY of the damage to the mower that needed to be repaired without first repairing it. If this were true, he would not have agreed to "LOOK" at it and tell me if it was worth fixing. I would have said it wasn't worth fixing. I authorized the cost of a battery and his consultation.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because I too attached the invoice that I received and still have attached to the message sent to me on February 3rd that includes the description of “work to be done” and it clearly states “needs battery to start, May need other work, bring back and identify problems” It goes on to state “identify other issues” and “advise”. No one advised me of anything. I didn’t even agree to take the mower back. If it’s worth it to him, he can have it and we can call it even. It is not worth it to me. I agree to pay for the parts on the invoice to be fair. I never expected free. I did (and do) expect to be consulted about the scope of the job before the job is done.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Mr **** is more than welcome to come and pick up this lawn mower at his convenience. I will place it where he left it in the drive way. I will leave the keys taped under the seat so that it is not stolen (a courtesy not afforded to me). I ask that he please give me a day's notice when he plans on coming over to pick it up so that I can move it to the drive way for easy access. A text will suffice as communication.

As the complainant in this situation, you have my permission to publish this complaint and all communication associated with it. People patronizing his business should know that he is a bully. This could have been easily avoided with some respectful first person communication.

      Sincerely,

      ******* ********
