Sept - Nov 2022 Paid $325 Tabletop to be refinished to match chairs in a set Tabletop came back much darker than the chairs. Also finish was not professional - gobs and drips on it, dull on one side to table and shiny on the other. Owner attempted to refinish again but he said that only darker finishes were possible. Never explained he could not match what I brought in. Never offered to reduce the price paid. Said he did nothing wrong. He did redo it, but color still came out darker than the chairs, ruining the whole set. And leaf included has a dull finish while rest of the table has a shiny finish. Never called me to tell me work was done. When I came to pick up the pieces they were filthy - looking like they had been done for quite some time.Business response

Business stated they did the table for the consumer. The consumer brought in the chair in order to match the colors. The business stated they did not go lighter or darker than the parameters on the back of the chair. The consumer has a problem with the color not the finish. That is how oak is. Some areas are darker and some are lighter. The business stripped table twice for the consumer with the second time being free of charge, however they can not change the way oak is designed. The second time was free in attempts to make the consumer happy. The business had the consumer come in to look before finishing the second time. The business has done what they could to work with the consumer.

I am rejecting this response because business never stated tabletop would look a different color than what was brough in. Attachment **** shows before picture and **** after picture which shows it much darker than the original tabletop. I have problem both with the color and the finish. The leaf they did has a dull finish while the rest of the table has a shiny finish (maybe a bit hard to tell from the photo). Yes, they finished it twice but that is because I was not happy with what the first time produced - both the color as well as the finish which had drip marks, white spots on it. I did come in to look at the table during the 2nd refinish, but then was told there is nothing they can do about the darker color. The business totally misrepresented what they were going to do and how it would come out. I was never told it would not look like it did when I brought it in. If I was told this, I would have decided not to have them refinish the tabletop. The business is merely picking one area of the chair to focus on, but as you can see from the photos, the tabletop is now a darker color than before and doesn't match the majority of the chair color. Again, the business never explained how the tabletop may come out looking different after the process at the time I dropped the tabletop off initially.

The business stated the consumer is welcome to come back in and get the table refinished. The business is also willing to paint the top any color for an accent and will match it with the room/color theme if the consumer is interested, however the business can not change the natural parameters of the wood.

I am rejecting this response because the offer to refinish WILL NOT restore the piece to it's original color (the business already refinished it once and this did not improve things), offering to paint and change the color is also not acceptable as that option was not my intention in getting the piece refinished. It all comes down to the business NOT informing me that the piece could come out a different color with refinishing. I feel they mislead me to believe I would get the same color and finish back as I had before. This misrepresentation or lack of explanation of expectations is why I am requesting a refund. Why do I want them to refinish or paint the piece only to not match my original intended color and finish.
