While Merry Maid Milk service was making a delivery to our center (****** **** Learning Center II- 3311 **** ********** Ave Columbus Ohio 43227). The delivery man knocked down our electric cables from the power line. This is the second time one of the drivers has knocked down these lines. When speaking with one of the supervisors (******) he was very rude about the situation. My business had to close down early due to the driver pulling down the power lines leaving the center without power. We had to evacuate the center at 11 am due to a lack of power to our facility and were unable to provide a safe place for our students because of the driver's negligence. The power lines also cause damage to two of my employee's vehicles when they got disconnected by the driver's truck.Business response

Thank you for the detailed information and opportunity to respond. We do feel bad about this unfortunate occurrence and any damages sustained. Our company driver involved in this delivery was unfamiliar with the customer and filling in due to the holiday week (no deliveries Tuesday 7/4/23 pushing back customers by one day). Our drivers are well trained to park and execute the delivery in an area that is safe for the driver, safe our customer, and safe fir any other vehicles or pedestrians. This typically means off the main street, away from sidewalks and in the rear of the customer's building. This practice also insures our truck is not taking parking spots away from our customers operations. Therefore, we certainly understand why the driver navigated his truck to the most likely location to fulfill these requirements. Our drivers are typically not looking for low hanging power lines, but rather, they should be focused on avoiding pedestrians, cars and other property as they maneuver the truck into the most appropriate delivery spot that satisfies the previously mentioned requirements. There is no doubt nor argument that our driver did hit the low hanging power lines and as a result pulled them down and away from where they were attached to the building. Our position is the height at which they were suspended above the ground very likely does not meet city code. Had the power lines been at code, which I believe is 15 feet (but could be wrong), our truck would have easily passed underneath. We make well over 1,000 deliveries weekly in the Greater Columbus area without issue and many of those are to very similar facilities with very similar features. As stated, we do feel bad this happened and have taken the measure to avoid reoccurrence but feel the responsibility for any and all damages lies with whoever installed the power lines to the building at a height that violates city code. Our driver today reported the power lines had been restored and placed at a higher level. We have regardless instructed all drivers to avoid the rear of the building. Lastly, I will personally contact this customer and relay this same message so there is no misunderstanding of our position.
