My name it's **************** took my SUV for a check engine light I paid for the diagnostic. Told me it was the timing belt. I had the work done on it. I paid over 2000 out of pocket my insurance paid the rest of the remaining balance. I took the car home next day my check engine light came back on. Took it back to the shop. They said it was a sensor. That some wire was broken of so I paid for it to be replaced. Took it back home check engine light came back on. Took it again for the 3rd time to the shop they said it was the same sensor. They keep the car a few days waiting for parts to arrive.. Ones again they said the problem was fix. Once again day later my check engine light came on again. Took it back to the shop. This time they told me that the bearings was bad. If they did the right Diagnostic that I pay for .they would of fixed it the first time. I tool my SUV running to the shop. With the check engine light on. They took my engine apart now I had to tow it to my house. With all engine parts in the back seats with oil all over my carpet and seat. I would like a refund for the money I gave to fix my SUV. Because now because of they doing the wrong diagnostic I have no car. Need for this issue to be resolved.Van's Auto Service & Tire Pros Response

Hi *******. First of all, I want to tell you that we truly empathize with your situation. Car repairs aren't a fun thing to deal with, let alone when you get into major repairs like what you're dealing with. Im hoping to explain a few things to give you a better understanding of what we did and why. On your first visit, we were able to confirm timing issues with the engine, as well as a comparatively minor issue with a purge solenoid. On certain vehicles (especially those with known problems), we may actually recommend looking at an engine replacement instead of only replacing the timing parts, knowing that further issues can show up down the line. When speaking with your warranty company, they agreed with the diagnosis of the timing parts, but stated they would only consider engine replacement if there were signs of an internal failure. There was no evidence of metal shavings in the oil or on the *** solenoids, and without any other symptoms, there was no honest reason we could condemn the engine at that time. We proceeded with replacement of the timing chain and components, along with the purge solenoid. Admittedly, a couple weeks after your initial visit, the check engine light came back on, and we found an issue with the wiring that connects to that purge solenoid. We were able to replace that with a new pigtail, we replaced the purge solenoid under warranty, and that problem was resolved. The next time you brought the vehicle in, because of new fault codes stored in the system, the warranty company wanted us to perform a tear-down of the engine in order to confirm the cause. During the inspection, we found that the engine had developed major internal issues with the crank / main bearings. We once again talked to your warranty company, and recommended replacement of the engine. They stated that they would only cover part of the repairs because there was evidence the vehicle was driven for an extended period of time while this issue was going on. Per your review, if the light came back on the day following our repairs on the purge solenoid, it was about three and a half months before you brought it back to us. Even so, we tried to argue on your behalf, stating this problem could have started months ago and just finally got bad enough to start showing symptoms. However, they wouldnt concede the point, and stated the original amount is all they would cover. We understand this whole situation is very frustrating, but the vehicle was diagnosed correctly, and weve merely been working within the confines of what your warranty company was willing to do. If anything changes and were able to get a different decision from them, wed be more than happy to help in any way we can. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.Review from Joe K

I am convinced ***'s tried to talk me into an expensive repair I didnt need. After hitting something in the toad and going in to buy tires, I was told said that my rear axel was bent and my car wasnt safe to drive long distances. They said I needed a complete axel replacement (around $3000 if my insurance covered it), or they could do a $500 shim and fix it. Of course I was a bit freaked out, soI left and got additional opinions.I consulted with three other very experienced mechanics, all in the business for 25+ years AND I went to my ******* dealership, AND I had a 2nd alignment check. All of them told me the car was just 0.02 or 2/100th of a degree out of line, according to the printout Vans gave me, and needed NO REPAIRS! Just to be safe, I got a 2nd alignment check at another local tire shop and was told my rear axel was only 1/10,000th of an inch out of line! That is 1/30 of the size of a human hair! All of them said I needed no repair and it was dishonest for Van's to recommend a $3,000 axel replacement or $500 shim! ****** told me if I drove the car for long it would wear my new rear tire out very quickly, everyone else said that was a lie. ??So, should I believe 3 other seasoned mechanics, my ******* dealer, and another tire shop that checked my alignment, or Vans? After about six attempts, I finally was able to talk to the owner of the chain, some guy named ******. He said ****** gave me inaccurate information and may have been trained improperly at his old place of employment! lol Nothing like passing the buck, right ******? ****** agreed that the degree of alignment was very very minor and said they do not regularly do shims. ****** said he does them fairly often. ****** who is telling the truth? ****** agreed with me several times that ****** gave me inaccurate information. ****** promised to talk to ****** and call me back. It has now been a month and I have not heard back from him. Thanks for keeping your word, ******.Van's Auto Service & Tire Pros Response

Hi ***. First, I want to apologize for not getting back to you when I said that I would. I truly thought that we had talked a second time, but then it was out-of-sight, out-of-mind until this review came across.Considering I just tried reaching out to you and the conversation quickly turned into a flurry of cuss words from your end of the phone, I figured it was better to respond here.
There are a few things that you mentioned in your review that were accurate, but there were a handful of things that didn't occur as you said. When we checked your alignment, we saw that the measurements for the rear-end of the vehicle were out of specifications. The numbers we're looking at are very precise, so "out of alignment" is usually measured in fractions of an inch (although someone calling it 1/10,000th of an inch was a bit of an exaggeration). Obviously we weren't trying to hide any of those facts from you, considering we sent the alignment printout with you when you left. When we were speaking with you about your vehicle, you actually seemed more concerned about the alignment than we did. We did NOT say that your tires would wear out very quickly if it wasn't addressed - we merely said that yes, over time, if your alignment is showing that it's out of specifications,it will eventually cause uneven wear on the tires. IF you wanted to address it,we could look into installing shims (a repair that we quoted around $300 between parts and labor, not $500). It's not very common for us to do, but it's a simple enough process. When you mentioned that you had struck a cinder block with the rear of the vehicle, we said that it was possible that something (such as the rear knuckle) could have been slightly bent when that happened. However,we never recommended or gave a quote on replacing that or the axle.
We pride ourselves in providing accurate and trustworthy information for our customers, and not using things like "scare tactics" to talk people into repairs. This situation was no different. We presented information, and when it seemed like it was a concern that you wanted to address, we provided options on how to do so. You have my cell phone number, so if you'd like to discuss this any further, please feel free to call me.

My dad and mom speak so highly of this place, and I went down there one day with my dad to get my mom's tire fixed and I was impressed! My dad asked how much it cost looking at the receipt that said $25. ***** kindly replied "You don't owe anything because you have the tire hazard coverage." Then my dad asked if ***** could check the records to see if it was time for the brakes, in which ***** pulled it up on the computer and told dad "They were just done recently and should be working fine, if any problems just let me know." To which I replied that they work really good, cuz I was the one driving. Any other place might try to rip a senior citizen off, but I trust this place 100%. Honest and professional people, great prices, and full service for your vehicle!* The more I learn about this place the better it gets!?My mom just showed me that they have coupons in the paper also! Grab a coupon. Check them out and you will be a happy camper. I guarantee it!? Only at Vans you can double your rebate! They match any manufacturers rebate! For example, the manufacturers rebate is $75. You'll get $75 from the manufacturer and $75 for bands = $150 savings!? They were named a top-rated service center by CarFax!? Free loaner cars!?+ More!Review from Gerald K

Had a problem with my credit card company about the payment. They researched the issue and corrected it which is more than what I can say that the credit card did. Or should I say my soon to be former credit card company. Will return to them when the need arises.Van's Auto Service & Tire Pros Response

*******, we're sorry you feel that we weren't honest in our assessment, but I assure you if we recommended ball joints at the time of service, then there was movement. We always offer to show our customers why we recommend replacement of parts by taking them out to the vehicle while it's lifted, this helps with understanding and transparency. Safety is our main concern always.
