On 3-26-24, I hired Phillips Landscape Design to remove old mulch and add brown, rubber mulch to my yard with weed fabric underneath, trim a few bushes, and power wash and seal my patio to prevent weeds from coming through the cracks. The project was completed on 3-28-24. He wanted a down payment up front, which was $2,000. I asked if I could pay by check, he said that was fine. Because I was going to be at work when they were completing the job, I wrote a check for the full amount of the project instead of just the down payment and handed it to him before any of the work was started. I came home after work and everything looked good from what I could see, however it was dark outside. The next morning, the owner (who was part of completing the job and the person I handed the check to) reached out to me claiming that there was a 14 day hold on the check and that he wanted a different form of payment. Due to it being ****** weekend, I told him that he would have to wait until the following Tuesday for me to be able to send another form of payment. He said this was okay and that he would cancel the check. On Monday, the amount from the check was removed from my account, showing that he never canceled the check and that there was not a 14 day hold on it. Luckily, I hadn’t sent any other form of payment yet, but it looked like he was possibly trying to scam me. As for the project, I didn’t notice it all at first, but they did an extremely poor job. They used two different mulch colors, they didn’t use enough mulch (the weed fabric underneath is showing in several areas), they didn’t edge the perimeter of the mulch beds, and they power washed but only simply poured sand into the cracks of our patio (there’s nothing sealed about it like he promised; 3 weeks later there are already weeds growing through). I reached out to Dean ******** (the owner) on April 14 and expressed my dissatisfaction, to which he chose to ignore me and not do anything to fix the situation right.
