In January 2023, I met with and hired Mr. ******* to complete our tax return for 2022. He asked that I email all tax docs to him, even though I expressed a preference for a secured portal. After emailing, I asked for confirmation of receipt, which I did receive.
In March of 2023, I was told our tax returns were complete so I paid him the $250 he requested. However, upon further examination, I advised him that none of the information I emailed him was included in the return. He apologized and said he'd make the needed corrections. I asked many times before the tax deadline if he'd be able to finish before tax returns were due in April, to which I received no response.
I continued to ask for feedback up to and through the deadline as well as inquired about any penalties or fees Mr. Kolarik's errors and delays were causing us.
After weeks of no response, I finally got one that stated in all caps, "IF YOU OWE IT WONT MATTER ABOUT PENALTIES OR FEES."
By this time, my husband's patience had grown thin and he told me to terminate any business with Mr. Kolarik. Which I did after finding another CPA to take over.
On May 15, I then asked for a refund to which Mr. ******* stated he had already put a check in the mail. When I hadn't received the check in 2 weeks, I asked Mr. ******* to confirm our address and received no response. I asked again 2 weeks later and again, no response.
As of now, we have not requested that Mr. ******* pay the penalties and fees that his delay created, but we do believe that we are due the promised refund for a service that he did complete.
