Price Gouging!Attempted to excessively charge homeowner for less than 3-0 of PVC and (2) Couplings to fix exhaust pipe on a water heater. This would take no more than 20 minutes at best, and they wanted to charge $355.00. Paid what was owed ($85.00 for Analysis (didn't mention the above exhaust pipe at time of analysis), $212.00 for installation of pressure switch valve = $297.00 total). Did not proceed with the $355.00 exhaust pipe rework. If this isn't the definition of price gouging, I don't know what is.

****, I'm sorry you did not choose to go with us for the competition of your repair. I hope you followed our recommendations to reach out to the company that installed your water heater. I want to take this opportunity to explain what happened. We were contacted to repair a water heater that was not working and was still under a manufacturer parts warranty. We are a warranty provider for State water heaters as well as most other manufacturers. This water heater was installed by another company less than 6 years ago. This was a power vent water heater. Power vent water heaters have differentinstallation standards especiallyfor the way the vent pipe is installed. It is important for the installation contractor to know the correct way to install the specificwater heater they are installing. When we arrived at the home, the water heater would not fire the burner. Our tech reached out to State Water Heaters to verifythe warranty, check for recalls and work with a factory engineerto identify the problem. It was determined that the pressure switch was bad. The part was under warranty and the manufacturer shipped it at no charge. Once the replacement part arrived our technician installed the part and it was very quickly realizedwhy the pressure switch went bad to begin with. The venting was not installed according to the manufacturer'sinstructions. Because of this, there was an excessiveamountof condensationgoing back into the water heater from the exhaustand damaging the pressure switch. This is something that clearly should have been caught at the time of installation but we did not install this water heater. We called State Water Heaters and worked with an engineer to confirm the problem, document the problem with the venting with pictures. When we presented the solutionwe suggested you could reach out to the original installer or if you wanted us to make the repair we would guarantee the venting was correct for the unit installed. Even though the amountof product was maybe not considered a lot, It would have certainly taken more than 20 minutesto complete the repair. We also would have taken responsibility for the entire venting system of the water heater for the lifetime of the unit. Meaning if the manufacturer said it wasn't correct we would correct it at no additional charge. I'm sorry we didn't earn your businessfor the completionof the repair but we did leave you with a working water heater and a case number that was attached to your water heater's serial number with the manufacturer, so that if the original installer tried to say it was done correctly. You had all the documentation to prove it was not, along with a clear descriptionof the changes that needed to be made to ensure the water heater performed the way it should in the future.A note to anyone reading this review. This case highlights the importance of using a highly qualifiedcompany to install your new water heater. Today's water heaters are much more complex than those made just a few years ago. When we performservice calls on water heaters still under warranty, 9 out of 10 times the cause of the failure is improper installation. Most people don't like reading instructions but sometimes it is absolutelynecessary. This was a situationwhere one water heater was removed and the new one was simply attached to the venting of the old unit even though the new water heater had different requirements for the venting system. This should have been corrected by the original company and hopefully it was done at no extra cost. It is also a blessing no one was hurt in this situation, water heater exhaustcan be very dangerous if not properly vented out of the home.
