We had 2 quotes…one for upstairs and one for the basement. Here is where it gets muddy. There were some smaller items that were on in the upstairs, but should have been in the scope of work for the the basement. That said, we realized these items (laundry room electrical and living room floor receptacles) would be in addition to the bid. The issue is, these items along with some smaller adjustments in the basement conveniently doubled the price of the job matching the price of the “upstairs” quote that we didn’t have completed. That said, the company is making a money grab trying to get money for things they didn’t do. We were quoted roughly $5300 for the downstairs portion of our electric service panel install and wiring. We had some minimal work done in our laundry room and Living room (both upstairs) as well as some changes. In addition, the company didn’t finish installing a GFCI outlet in the basement peninsula.

      Business response

      09/28/2022

I am writing in response to ********* ********* filed with the BBB.
MH Electric, LLC. Was hired by **** ****** to complete electrical work on the basement level of his house. The amount quoted for the above-referenced work was $5300.00 for the basement and an additional $850.00 for the replacement of an electrical panel. The date of the estimate was 05/12/2020. Included with the estimate were drawings that were revised and approved by the owners prior to commencing work. Per the estimate, the proposal was valid for 30 days and there was a 25% percent down payment expected prior to scheduling a start date for the work. After several delays due to the homeowner waiting on other bids, and banking issues on the homeowner's side of things, the date for work to start commencing was June 28th, 2021. MH Electric honored the original quoted price with the estimate, although the estimate clearly stated it was only valid for 30 days, and at this point was 13 months old. In another attempt to be accommodating towards the client, MH Electric also agreed to forgo the 25% down payment. As the job progressed, **** ****** requested additional work that our electricians documented accordingly (Please see the attached). Some of this work was on the 1st FL and most of the work was in the basement. MH Electric wrote the additional costs up at current pricing, due to the fact that most of the material had a 200% cost difference from the surging prices and supply shortages caused by the pandemic. The homeowners disagreed with the additional cost associated with the work, so we arranged an appointment with Ryan and his wife to review the additional work with costs on April 8th, 2022. We walked through the job and agreed to the work that is reflected on the attachment with the homeowners. MH Electric then sent an updated invoice as a follow-up to the meeting. There have been several emails in regard to the differences and MH Electric even agreed to lower the costs to resolve the dispute by removing approximately $1,000.00 from the invoice. It should be noted that the original check from the customer bounced resulting in a $30.00 bank fee, which was applied to the updated invoice. While MH Electric has made numerous concessions and negotiations to appease the clients, we have been largely unsuccessful in arriving at a fair outcome or receiving any payments for the services already rendered. We look forward to resolving this matter as quickly as possible.

      Regards,

      Mark H***
      Final Invoicing was as follows:
Replacement of the 200A panel $850.00 Per the original estimate
Basement work per the agreed drawings $5,300.00
Bounced check from the General contractor $35.00
      Additional work basement $2850.00
      Additional work 1st FL $1,750.00

      Customer response

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

In regards to MH Electric, the meeting they mentioned was a result of me questioning why they forgot to remove the “upstairs” portion of the original bid from the job. Over the phone before the meeting they literally told me they would removed that portion from the bid. Then they followed up with wanting a meeting as we neared the completion of the job. They never once said “this is the price” with all the “changes” that were made. This is a clear case of bait and switch tactics and is disgusting coming from a “Christian”. I now have paid double the prices of the original bid for half the work on the original bid. Mark is claiming all the “new work” is the reason for the increase, but the “new work” was work that was adjusted, not changed. It wasn’t put in, and then ripped out and redone, it was literally minimal adjustments that he is claiming as new. He is using bait and switch methods to make up for the losses. The fact that his business was too lazy to change the price until I said something only further proves. They were trying to get the money from the whole bid, but only did a little more than half of what was quoted (the upstairs wasn’t touched aside from the laundry room and the floor outlets in the living room…which his guys butchered the floor and also broke drywall in my ceiling. He offered to have guys from his church fix it…not a professional installer…he’s all about nickel and dining and not about doing the right thing.

Mark is hung up on a bounced check (that was a check from my contractor, and not from me and was a result of them not coming back to the job site for an extended period of time. I had a check in hand months prior to this issue, then they never can back until much later. I did mail the check and then it bounced.

      Regards,

      **** ******
