I had Marc come out to replace a tub and surround walls. He would come for maybe 1-2 hours at a time. Going into week four I asked how much longer this would take as other contractors told me it would be about 7-10 days to complete the job. Upon completion I had my dad give him the remaining balance check which was 1,300. When I came home to find the bathroom was left a horrible mess I stopped payment on the final check. It was brought to his attention that the drain did not look properly installed. He advised us that he would fix that. I messaged him regarding this issue. He at first apologized admitting his wrong doings stating he would come out and fix this. When he realized I stopped payment on the check he immediately became defensive and aggressive towards me. At this point I didn't even feel comfortable letting him come back in my home. This was in May. Last night I realized I had a leak and to my surprise my ceiling was caving in. I immediately had someone come out to look at it. The leak was coming from an improperly installed drain and had been leaking over time cause my ceiling to be damaged. I would like for this contractor to refund me for the incomplete job he left me with as well as future repairs to fix what he did.Business response

I started working at *******'s residence on May 2nd, 2023, having been recommended by a mutual acquaintance. The project concluded on May 25th, 2023, spanning a duration of 3 weeks and 2 days. I find myself wondering why ******* didn't opt for one of the numerous contractors she had previously consulted with if she desired a swifter job. Right from the project's onset, I found myself under considerable pressure, not only from ******* but also from her father, who was frequently present, questioning my progress and inquiring about the expected completion timeline. This added pressure left me feeling uneasy, particularly as a relatively new contractor. My aspiration was to execute the work meticulously and ensure its completion by May 25th, as I had vacation plans and didn't want them to be inconvenienced by an unfinished bathroom.
On the final day before my vacation, some minor details still required attention. However, I assumed that ******* and her family would be able to utilize the bathroom until my return. I communicated my intention to return for final touches and necessary corrections. Nevertheless, she abruptly ceased payments without prior communication. This abrupt halt in payments was frustrating, given the substantial effort and time I had invested in the project, which would understandably frustrate anyone. Despite my initial frustrations, I offered to rectify any issues, but ******* declined due to my frustrated responses. It's important for me to emphasize that as a father, husband, and someone personally acquainted with someone known to *******, I would never deliberately deceive anyone, especially during the early stages of establishing my business. I wholeheartedly acknowledge that my initial reaction was ill-advised, and I sincerely apologize for that.
******* mentioned in both her text messages uploaded and mine that she intended to pay someone else to rectify the minor mistakes instead of having me return for the repairs. Given this intention, I presumed that she would utilize the refunded $1,300 to address these issues promptly. It remains perplexing to me why she allowed a known drainage problem to persist from May until late September, especially when she was aware of its need for attention. In her own words, she stated, "That's fine; I can simply have someone else fix it." Hence, the refund of $1,300 should have been allocated towards resolving these issues if she was unwilling to permit me to do so.
Regarding the previous payment totaling $2,900, it's essential to clarify that this sum includes both labor and material costs. It covered expenses for the tub, surround, subfloor, insulation, shower light, plumbing supplies, drywall, and various other necessary materials. A very small portion of the initial payment of $2,900 was paid to me for labor. My current proposition extends to offering to rectify these issues at no additional charge.
