Prior to starting the project (building a porch), I had three conversations on how I wanted the steps, just to make sure there were no questions and that there was complete clarity. The conversation was on both the width and depth, with the emphasis being on the length. After completing the deck, the contractor started the steps. With his first attempt, the width and the length of the stair ******** was incorrect. After new conversation, he agreed that it made sense to fix, and he thanked me for pointing this out. The contractor did correct the width so to make the width of the steps the same as the cement pad at the bottom of the steps (this so your last step would be on the cement pad and not on the dirt). However, he did not correct the length.I pointed this out along with the fact that the contractor now made a really short top step, which was dangerous, causing one to be off-balance when stepping off the porch (the height of the top step was only 2 ***; inches). I asked him to fix this top step along with shortening the length of the steps (our fifth such conversation on this). I wanted the ******** length shortened so to not have the steps come out as far on to the cement pad (giving enough space to turn to head down the sidewalk) and to also make sure the railing fit (the store determined I needed 6-foot rails). With him not shortening the length, the contractor put the bottom posts on the next to bottom step instead of the bottom step so to make the railing work for when he was ready to install.Having one more conversation about the length that I wanted, I laid the rails down the steps showing him the 6-footers would work. We both agreed that if he fixed the steps to my initial request there should be no issues. When I got home from work, I still noticed the rails not being put on. Instead of having 6-steps at a height of 6 ***; inches, he had 7 steps (5 ***;, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 4 1/2). With six steps the railing would have worked. So, the contractor never finished the project he did not come back to install the rails - in addition, from his removing of the actual steps and redoing, there are several s**** holes in the steps with no screws he pieced the bottom step together, making for a construction eyesore and he did not provide a lip on the steps so to be able to put facia on the steps kick plates (he could cut down the kick plates so to provide a lip) .Finally, a side project I paid him for, he did not complete. He was to install three pieces of deck facia. He put up one piece but did not cut it to fit. He did not put up the other two pieces.
