We called Thomas Edison Electric on 8/28/2023 to request a quote for adding an outlet for our new dryer. They arrived on 9/5/2023 and the technician informed my fiancé that the cost would be $3,600. Because my fiancé had already paid them $95 to come out and give us a quote, he panicked and agreed that we would go with them. Upon ******** the actual price of the job, we called back their dispatch about 20 minutes after they left our house to get supplies for the job and told them that we would not be going with them. The dispatcher said this was fine, and offered us 10% discount if we would go with them. We said no, because the price is egregious. The technician returned to our home and he demanded we pay him not just the $95, but additionally $200 to compensate him for driving to buy supplies after leaving our home. Altogether we paid Thomas Edison $295. The next day, a local electrician came to our home and quoted us $525. That's $525 for the same work that Thomas Edison said would cost $3,600. For just the price we were forced to pay for the electrician to come to our home and give us the bad quote, we could have paid for more than half of the the job. The technician absolutely fast-talked my fiancé into believing the job was huge because of the location of our electric box, fed him lies about how much labor would be required to get the job done, told us there was only one more conduit like the one we needed left on the East Coast and that he now had it, and altogether told us we needed work that we did not need at an aggressive, dumbfounding price. Beyond that, I feel swindled out of $295.Customer response

On Friday (10/21) afternoon, an electrician from Thomas Edison Electric visited my home due to a loss of power in my apartment. The dispatcher charged a $125 fee, and when the electrician came in I was asked to accept charges for $1,019 (a total invoice of $1,134). He was very professional and power is back, but there was no damage or need to repair --the breaker was loose and he tightened it in less than 15 minutes. When the electrician finished the assessment he noticed that no repair was needed. However, the charges were not reassessed. I am not a homeowner and I rent my apartment. The cost of this visit is 1.3 times the cost of my monthly rent. My landlord will not reimburse due to unreasonable charges. Moreover, I was charged commercial building pricing, but the power outage was on my residential unit. I am attaching the invoice for review.Business response
