On Nov 17, 2020, I, *** ******, inquired if **************** could create a custom instrument that met my specifications. In March of 2021, I received a quote and made a down payment. **************** then led me on for nearly two years, citing numerous setbacks supposedly out of his control, promising to deliver a top-tier instrument. He provided low-quality photos of the process which concealed major issues. As his company website puts it, he has been creating instruments since 2010, offering custom builds with a fast turnaround. This presentation, coupled with high-quality photos and a top-tier price point of $6,050.00, created lofty expectations for a quality, reliable, serviceable instrument suited for professionals. Any professional or reasonably experienced musician given an opportunity to test-play the instrument I finally received would not make the purchase for any price. Out of the box, it required immediate adjustment, which is normal for a new instrument. However, as I made standard changes and disassembled serviceable parts, I discovered that it was barely holding itself together, and had to bring it to a local machinist for desperate repair. Once repaired, I was able to take the time to discover myriad issues remaining. Multiple components are not to my specifications or even missing, which were communicated about at length in our email exchanges. Standard scaling measurements are far off, making the instrument unfit for professional use. For the technical aspects related to intonation, I have created a short video demonstrating the inability to intonate the instrument which can be provided upon request. I have proposed that he provide me a refund, and that I return the instrument to him at my own expense. He ignored me. I reached out again, and he responded simply, "You do what you feel is right." implying that he prefers I move forward with legal action. I have not yet filed suit.
