They installed a roof for my home in fall 2022. They promised yearly inspections and gave a 40 year guarantee. They were paid more than $10,000 for the job. There have been no annual inspections to date. When there is a hard rain, we are getting a leak in our kitchen. Called to have them look at the problem in June of this year. They promised they would visit and find the problem. They never followed up in any way. We followed up with them on August 7. They promised to be to our house in the next week. There was no follow up again. I have called and texted imploring them to address the problem. I looked up their address and attempted to meet them in person. I was told their office was in the ********* in the ******** ********************. The employee I spoke to there said she was not permitted to give me any info about them. I gave them another chance to contact me through voice mail and they continue to ignore my request.Initial Complaint

Forest Knoll completed a total roof replacement(including replacing shingles, tar paper, flashing, and any rotted decking) for me in July of 2021 for $9900. Service was completed promptly and without much trouble except for rusty nails all around my house. Two years after service, I noticed shingles coming off of the ridge vent on the right side of my house and water ingress from around my chimney into my attic. I contacted Forest Knoll on June 27th, 2023 to fix the issue since the original contract includes a 10-year labor warranty. I did not receive a reply and called again 2 days later. I reached someone who said that they would call me back to set up a repair after speaking with their service department. A month went by and I had not received any correspondence so I called again. Once again I did not reach anyone for another week. The next person I spoke with gave the same instruction that they will contact the service department to schedule the repair. Another couple weeks go by and still no response. It has now been 6 months since I first contacted Forest Knoll to repair the roof that they installed. They did send out someone to assess the situation in mid-December 2023 and scheduled service on December 19th,2023, but the repair did not happen and now there is water actively dripping from around my chimney into my attic. I have yet to assess any damages from the water ingress.Initial Complaint

I have water damage that was supposed to be repaired. I have made multiple attempts to meet with the company to have my roof and inside my house repaired. Phillip the owner kept telling me someone from his office was going to call me to repair the damage. I got tired of his lies. I want a partial refund so that I can hire another roofer and contractor to fix my roof, drywall and paint. My spare room is leaking water from the roof. Damage to the ceiling in different areas and one wall water peeled the paint. The attic has water stains in several areas as well.Business response

On August 23, 2023 I signed a contract With Forest Knoll Construction to replace the roof shingles on my home and detached garage. They also agreed to replace gutters, soffit and facia. The total charge for the project was to be $19,900 of which I paid $6634 as a deposit and made a second payment of $9633 on September 5, 2023. The shingles were installed promptly but it has now been two months since any materials were delivered or any work has been done. I called Forest Knoll numerous times and spoke to Phillip and his staff requesting that they return to finish the job. We have continued to speak politely and I have been entertained by countless excuses, apologies, and promises. I last spoke to Phillip on Thursday, October 19. He said he still intends to finish the work but does not say when. He asked if there is any one thing that he could do for me. I said that I would like to have my gutters installed as winter is approaching. He said he would call his gutter man and get back to me on Monday morning. Monday and Tuesday have come and gone and as of today, Wednesday, October 25, I'm still waiting. The way to resolve this would be to complete the entire project. I would be most grateful to have at least the gutters done ASAP.Business response

*** ********* *s correct in that his contract of $19,900 was for the roof installation (which was completed on 9/7) and for the replacement of the soffit and fascia on the front porch, right side of house and right side of addition, and gutters on 1 side of garage. We did not collect $3,633 of the contract for the soffit/fascia and gutter replacement/installation. We explained to *** ******** that our siding crew was injured and we are working on a replacement crew. We have *** ******** on the schedule to be completed as soon as possible. We appreciate the patience.Customer response

Contacted Forest Knoll Construction based on a website referral from Owens Corning. Signed a contract for roofing work on 6/16/2023. Paid $8,320.00 deposit. As of 10/10/2023 no materials delivered or any roofing work done. Continued excuses when able to get a response, not one single proactive contact made by the company, many customer contacts by phone/text most resulting in being ignored. Appear to be blocked from their business Facebook page ( that I could see before) which continues to show sales opportunities to garner additional money/business, yet they are obviously not completing jobs they already took money/contracted for. Digging deeper it appears there’s a history of fraud and deceit by the business owner and they have given no reason for me to believe otherwise. At question is the listed business address as well which physically does not exist. Based on this continued situation and additional owner/business information I am requesting a full refund of the $8,320.00 deposit in order to get roofing work completed on my house.Business response

The shingles for *** ******* roofing were special-order directly from Owens Corning. The type that he selected are only made a few per month by Owens Corning. This was something that was explained to *** *****. We understand that *** ***** has an active leak and is extremely anxious to have it completed.
We contacted our supply company and the special-order shingles have been received by them. We received this information yesterday before we received the BBB complaint. Yesterday, we reached out to *** ***** and informed him we were ready to go for his project and he was scheduled for installation this Friday, 10/12. We reached out again today to inform him we would be onsite on Friday (materials, dumpster and crew) but have not heard back from him.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.

On 8/8/2023, Forest Knoll owner, W. Philip S****** came to our home to give us an estimate on replacing the siding on the back of our home. I signed the contract and put down $2k toward the project. He stated that 'sometime next week', the office would call us about having a dumpster delivered, etc. No one called. after two weeks, I reached out to Kelly who originally scheduled the estimate. She replied that she does not cover the project scheduling and referred me to an email address and phone number. I sent an email and called the number leaving a message. The voicemail also suggested another number where I again left a message. None of these messages were returned. On 9/7/2023, I texted Philip inquiring about next steps. He said he would contact his PM and get back to me. By 9/11/2023, I hadn't heard anything. I texted asking if I should consider this a loss and move on to another company. His response: Good morning. I am confused. Why would this be a loss? Yes we are doing the project. I am trying to nail down a start date'. As of today, 10/4/2023, I have yet to receive any communication from the office or Philip himself as to a start date.Customer response

We just received this text message from Forest Knoll Construction. We absolutely do want our complaint posted. This was the most unprofessional behavior we have dealt with in any of our home improvement projects. While they did refund our money, the stress, irritation, and unprofessionalism we dealt with didn't change. Thank you for your consideration.Initial Complaint

We paid Forest Knoll $18,567 in March 2022 to install a new roof. Forest Knoll's crew did not install new flashing as specified in the contract. Our roof leaked where the flashing was reused and now had nail holes through them, and the reused flashing did not cover the shingle gaps because the new shingles were wider than the old ones. The roof leaked internally for 5 months before the water came through the ceiling in August 2022, and in that time caused mold damage throughout the bedroom ceiling, insulation and walls of our primary bedroom. Forest Knoll fixed the flashing within a week of our initial complaint in August 2022, and offered to fix the interior damage, but then did nothing for nearly 3 months - by the time they had a contractor call me to look at the damage in late October 2022, I had already signed a contract with someone else to fix the interior. In the meantime, I had also filed a claim with their insurance company, since Forest Knoll was doing nothing to help us and they had given us a copy of their policy with the contract. After he was contacted by his insurance company for information about the claim in early September 2022, Forest Knoll’s owner, Philip, called me and was furious and extremely rude and condescending. He asked me why I hadn’t told him about the damage first and given him a chance to fix it, when I had in fact notified his company immediately, and they had already fixed the flashing, but done nothing about the interior damage. We have sent multiple letters demanding payment for the damage they caused, and they have not even tried to work with us. They caused about $17,000 in damage to our house, not to mention months of stress, significant inconvenience, and now probably legal fees. Our insurance covered about $12,700, and we want Forest Knoll to pay $4,300 for the rest of the damages their insurance company denied, plus compensate us $6,000 for loss of use of property and our time dealing with this mess = $10,300 total.Business response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Melissa K**** and I were seemingly discussing the matter in good faith. She agreed that Forest Knoll would pay $8,000 to reimburse us for the damages and administrative work from the leak by Monday April 3, and in return I would sign a legal document releasing them from future actions and I would withdraw my permission for the text of the complaint to be published on BBB's website.
Ms. K**** sent me the legal document on March 30 and I sent it to my attorney for review. My attorney responded on April 5 and I sent Ms. K**** minor edits that same afternoon. The edits simply specified when and where the damage occurred and retain our warranty coverage for the roof in full force and effect. I had notified Ms. K**** that my attorney was reviewing it on April 2.
Today is April 11, and Ms. K**** continues to delay action. She did not reply on Thursday or Friday of last week, and when I followed up by text message on April 10, she said she was travelling for the holiday and would review it on Monday. I followed up by text again yesterday afternoon, and today she texted me that she was out of the office yesterday due to 'a horrible gastrointestinal bug' and said she would be in the office today and review it.
In my opinion, Forest Knoll is not acting in good faith, and hasn't since this entire incident began when the roof leak was found in August 2022. To resolve this complaint, I will no longer accept a negotiated amount. Forest Knoll can pay me the full $10,277.90 requested (and itemized in previous documentation) by certified check in my possession no later than Thursday April 13 at 5pm. After I am satisfied that the certified check has cleared, I will withdraw my permission for BBB to post the text of my complaint on their website.Regards,

I signed an agreement with Melissa K**** of Forest Knoll yesterday morning to resolve this BBB complaint. However, within hours of her receiving the signed agreement (that she drafted and sent to me), Ms. K**** notified me twice in writing that they refuse to honor the agreement and send the check for the negotiated $8,000 reimbursement of our repair costs etc. until I sign a new agreement with additional unfavorable terms. I offered to agree to the new terms for full reimbursement of $10,277.90, but they refused and then added even more unfavorable terms. This complaint remains unresolved.
I filed a consumer complaint with the PA Attorney General's office this morning as well.
Thank you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. Please close this complaint and post it to the BBB website.
I wish I had researched court judgements against Forest Knoll Construction and their management before I signed a contract with them.Forest Knoll Construction has repeatedly acknowledged responsibility for causing $17,000 of damage to my house. I have a fully signed agreement from April 12, 2023 that Forest Knoll Construction’s management drafted, approved and required to resolve this matter, promising reimbursement of $8,000 of related costs that were not covered by my insurance. Now that it has been signed, Forest Knoll Construction refuses to honor that agreement.
