A withdrawal in the amount of $485 was transferred from my account to pay ****************************** account that is overdrawn. The bank stated because I was on the account and her account was negative that is the reason why they took my money. I can not remove my name from the account because *************************** is the primary account holder, I explained to the bank last year that I do not speak to ******* and how am I suppose to remove my name from her account. They stated, they did not know what to do in this situation but they took my money.Business response

The above member opened a checking account 5/24/2019 in joint names with the daughter being named as the primary on the account. A name cannot be removed from this account unless the primary comes in to remove the joint owner's name. Both parties are responsible for the status of the account.
When a checking account goes into a negative balance, letters are sent to both the primary and joint owners to notify them of the account status. These letters are sent at 10 days negative, 20 days negative and 32 days negative. The letters are sent to the addresses on file for each member.
Once at 32 days negative, the Collector will try and reach out to each member to resolve the negative account balance. Emails were sent to each member requesting a call regarding the account. The phone numbers on record were no longer valid for each member. No response was received from either member to the letters and/or emails sent.
At 45 days negative, it was found that the Joint Owner had funds in her personal account to cover the negative balance in the account that was joint with the daughter. Funds were offset from the personal account to resolve the negative balance.
Since this action was taken, the Joint Owner contacted the Collector and various other branches of the Credit Union to try to retrieve the funds back. At that time, a new phone number was given for contact with the Joint Owner and was also advised that the address and phone number on file for the daughter, primary, was not correct. The Joint Owner did not give updated information for the daughter.
The daughter has since made contact with the Credit Union and updated her address and phone number.
The Credit Union does not participate in domestic matters, as seems to be the case between the Primary and Joint Owner on the account.
