This company does good work with the poly garage floor seals, but sadly, their communication is severely lacking. I received no communication from the project manager when the initial job was complete, telling us what to expect, when to walk/park on floor, etc. and I had to reach out to the office for this information (thankfully we avoided walking on it, just in case). Then, we had to contact the company to return for repairs- so many problem areas that I’m surprised the project manager had even signed off on the initial job… When the crew returned, the project manager failed to communicate with me when he was coming to the house for the repairs. I was told by the representative at the office to be at the house at 2 pm, but when I arrived at 2 pm, the crew had already been working for hours! Which meant I never got to do a walk-through with the project manager to show him the areas of concern- my guess is that he was working off of a few photos I had sent the office, weeks prior. My concern is that if this project manager signed off on the initial job, how do I know he’ll see all the issues the second time around, without us pointing them out? The second time the crew finished sealing the floor, no notification to say “we are done” but I was made aware by the project manager that my consent would be obtained before they bill my credit card (a sheet to sign). Sadly, the next day, my card was billed without my consent. I never signed anything and I never received a call to obtain consent. When I called the billing department to ask why this happened & to explain that not even 12 hours had passed, so I hadn’t even walked on the finished product to check & make sure it was fixed, I was told “I’m sorry, the production department pushed the bill through to us”. I was by no means withholding a payment from these hard working men, I just would expect a service to be complete and for a final walkthrough to ensure customer satisfaction, before the final payment was billed.Surface Bella, LLC Response

Overcharged from the original quote. More materials than needed were delivered and removed later. Some work not requested was done with the wrong materials which I had to research and correct. This company is a Cluster ****. I've been ripped off.Surface Bella, LLC Response

Hello, I can't speak to much of what you say because you have not called out office with a complaint. However, it is standard practice in construction to deliver extra material to job site in case there is excessive waste, bad material etc. The claim that "some work done not requested" is confusing. Was this work paid for? Again, I am more than willing to help, but I would need more information. Please call our office and ask for the owner.Review from David Z

2000 characters doesn’t give me enough space to describe the problems I had to deal with Surface Bella. Although it looked nice after the nine months it took to get them here at their convenience, the door isn’t stable to my shower installation and their salesman didn’t know different plumbing would be required which cost me substantially more money. The owner does not care he inconveniences you or what it costs you. Doesn’t acknowledge his faults in any way. He also doesn’t provide any license of plumbing when requested at least 10 times. There are plenty of contractors out there, do your research and don’t get in the situation I was in with Surface Bella -****Surface Bella, LLC Response

Why didn't you file a complaint? Because there is no complaint that the BBB will accept. Your problem is we have completed your job and you are satisfied per text messages. Yet you have not paid. I respectfully gave you every opportunity to handle this, now you have a lien on your property. Please do not contact me, or our company anymore. Further, the falsehoods you have told here will be forcefully defended legally. You do not get to not pay your bills.Review from Ted C.

On 3/31/ laid on the diagonal with a picture frame around it. Total cost $16,230. Downpayment of $8,115. On May 3rd, the deck was completed and the final payment of $8,115 was made. On 5/17/23 ************ ********* ****** company installed a ceiling under the **** deck. It leaked from day one. **** came out and evaluated the ceiling and the deck. They advised it was a flashing problem that Surface Bella did not take care of when they installed the deck. *** *****, ****, sent an email to us on July 5th stating "Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't address that as they were redecking, as they were looking right at it." After several texts and emails to Tim D**** at Surface Bella, he replied that they would remove the decking on approximately 15 x 13 ft of the deck and that they did not have the flashing material necessary to fix it but they would then come back after it was fixed and re-install the boards for $1800. My husband, ***, asked if they would split that cost and Tim D**** in another text replied NO. So *** who is 77 years old, by himself, removed all the necessary decking boards, put new flashing in, and reinstalled the decking boards during July 25 -27 in mid to high 90-degree weather. We have pictures of the holes in the flashing when Surface Bella removed all the original decking. We also have pictures that show when *** removed the new decking boards there were holes where their installer just placed deck boards on top of the holes!!!!! We could not figure out how to add the pictures but if you wish to contact us we can supply them. Phone calls were just for appointments. Everything was done via texts and emails. We would never recommend Surface Bella to anyone! They do sloppy work and don't stand behind it.Surface Bella, LLC Response

This review is both misleading and spiteful. To illustrate its ridiculousness for the general public it is the equivalent of someone walking into a ****** **** and saying the following: "********* just served me cold fries, what are you going to do to make it right". We contracted to remove deck boards and replace with trex picture framed and angled cut. We did that as contracted (well below market price). The customer was happy and signed off on the project. A month later the customer decided to get a ceiling system under their deck. A system that would have required the deck to be flashed properly beforehand. The customer then emailed us and stated the following that whoever did whatever flashing originally did not do it properly. We do not flash when we build decks from the ground up because we do not lag into a house, it is a bad idea. Nevertheless, the customer and the ceiling people BOTH ACKNOWLEGED that poor flashing was not our fault. We told her we would help remedy the situation, however, by removing and reinstalling all the deck boards for around $1600. She did not want to pay that. That is nearly three days of labor and another customer who has to wait so we can help them out and is well below our normal cost. Instead, she said "well can you split it with us". The unmitigated gall to ask for me to pay for your poor planning is breathtaking. This is the whole story, and lays bare your unwarranted and unfair review. Two things to consider, why not write a review on the company who did the flashing, or the company who installed your underdeck system before knowing it was flashed properly? You conclude your review by saying you would not recommend us to anybody. Good, because if they are in your circle they must operate with the same lack of integrity and sense of entitlement that you have exhibited here. Best of luck finding any licensed, bonded reputable contractor who reads this to take you on, it is a small circle. If you have questions fellow good contractors I will tell you who to avoid.Customer Response

We advised Keith L*****, Surface Bella's salesman, before we signed our contract that we were going to install an underdeck ceiling. On March 31, 2023 we contracted with you for the deck. On April 6, 2023 we contracted with ************ ********* for the underdeck ceiling. You did not complete the deck til May 3rd. At that time we did not know there was a major problem. We never said that the holes in the flashing was Surface Bella's fault. We said when the installer saw the holes in the flashing he or someone from Surface Bella should have advised us that we had a problem and how much additional it would cost to correct the problem. It surely would have been cheaper than finding out afterwards when the deck boards had to be removed and reinstalled after correcting the flashing. What is your policy if your contractor comes across termites in the wood, foundation, or rotted wood or code violations? Would you build over a code violation or other problems found after the old deck was removed? How does that compare with our 15 year old damaged flashing? We are not sure where you came up with $1600 to remove and reinstall the boards. On 7/20/23 at 10:14 in the morning Tim D****, Surface Bella, advised in a text it was $1800 to just remove and replace the boards. That's why we asked to split it at $900. You advised in a phone call today that it would take two men two and a half days to remove and reinstall the 13 x 15 decking. We would still be responsible for repairing the flashing. We do not need a contractor. My 77 year old husband by himself took three days to remove the deck boards, repair the flashing and reinstall the boards. It has rained several times and there are no leaks. As stated in the original review, we have pictures that were sent to you but we could not get them attached to this review. They can be seen on ******* **** or **** if anyone is interested. We did not file a claim for money. We left a review because we wanted other people to know what to look for and ask so they didn't get a big surprise at the end like Surface Bella gave us!!Review from Michelle V

We had a deck built by Surface Bella. The builder completely cut off my outside faucet, and when I brought it to their attention, they removed a portion of two deck boards above the faucet area. But, the faucet was still unreachable. It is located beneath two horizontal (supporting) boards under the portion of the upper boards they removed. It is STILL NOT accessable. Which leaves us with no hose faucet in the back yard. The only other option is several hoses hooked together and brought to the back yard from the front of the house. I am not a professional deck builder, so I question why this was not brought to our attention prior to the deck being built. My only other option is to call a plumber, and have a new hose faucet installed. I would NOT recommend this company!Review from Abel C

Do NOT use Surface Bella. After speaking with multiple contractors, Surface Bella charges almost double for any project. Their customer service is horrendous, the owner gets defensive when you bring up issues and the sub contractors don’t stay on with them long enough to complete a project. I had them knock down my old deck with shingle roof so as to build a deck double the size and install an aluminum screen and roof system. As they were building it out, they wanted to use some of the old wood rails and only add new ones to the area to be expanded. I ended up having to pay for new extra wood to do it right. Additionally, they did not want to put an extra support beam that is required by code at their expense. They wanted to charge me extra. How does that make sense for something that was quoted already and the scope laid out by the salesman and Project team. The salesman also made a lot of promises that later we found out we’re not listed in the contract and the owner for Surface Bella notoriously pushed back on everything stating it wasn’t in the contract. It has become a game of showing what was stated in email and text messages and what was in the contract. After months waiting on material for the aluminum roof and screen system, they finally started the project in January even though the last contract was signed in October. They used different sub contractors that lasted a day or less while installing the roof panels and screen system. Sometimes they were even watching ******* videos on their phone to find out how to put stuff together. This resulted in a number of issues. First and foremost, the electricity I had running for the deck shorted out causing issues at the breaker box and ultimately had a whole switch no longer working. Surface Bella said that it wasn’t them until the electrician showed up. The newly installed roof leaks everywhere whenever it rains and water is accumulating at the top causing water damage and stains on the inside of my house.Review from Dr. Bee K.

Surface Bella remodeled our master bathroom. We have had numerous problems in the aftermath. Here are some of them: 1. One sink leaked persistently after installation. I repaired it myself. Surface Bella did not respond to calls about this. 2. A screw on the shower door handle was ruined during installation. It was only after months that the handle separated, and I had to screw it back in that it became clear the screw was ruined. 2. There are several places where work is not flush with edging. The quality of materials is good, but the workmanship was not.Surface Bella, LLC Response

***, we do not have any record of you calling our office for a service. Your job was completed a year and a half ago with you walking the job and signing a completion which we have on file. We have an entire service department that handles matters like this and a system that tracks every service issue. Who did you call, could it be you were reaching out to someone no longer with the company? I just reached out to you, call our office ************, we certainly can not solve a problem we are not aware of.Review from Jane V

They are people pleasers and want the customer happy. We were communicated with every step of the way.. Thank you Surface Bella for being an outstanding organization. If you are considering using Surface Bella for your bathroom remodeling project, I strongly recommend you to reconsider. We thought we were hiring a professional company and what we got was total incompetence, a first time amateur would have done a better job. Here is list of just some of issues: -shower valve was incorrectly installed 3 times and had to be removed and reinstalled by others. Two critical mfr supplied adapter pieces were not even installed, causing valve to leak. -shower door was installed without all parts and safety provision of door was overridden -toilet was set unlevel, without shims or caulking.. had to removed and reset level -marble vanity top was scratched by installers setting tools directly on top without protection -vanity and backsplash was installed off-center and not level. It had to be removed, backsplash cut away from wall, drywall repaired, and reset correctly. -Drain cleanout port was completely blocked as not cutout was done on back of vanity -Toilet and vanity were set before door jamb, door trim, and baseboard was installed and painted -Vanity faucets were wrongly installed and copper supply line to faucet smashed, restricting flow. Faucets were on centered over countertop opening causing plunger lift rod not to function There are photos to document all of the above and much more. Management was notified on 3 separate times pointing out the issues but low quality, out of sequence, and poorly scheduled work continued. Installers did not show up at scheduled times and then several times showed up at totally unscheduled time. What should have been a simple straight forward 2 to 3 week remodeling effort turned into an 8 week nightmare. A separate remodeler required 3 weeks to fix and correct the problems Surface Bella created but several of the cosmetic defects could not be addressed. "Because quality matters" to most home owners, find someone who can deliver quality because this company cannot. Zero stars a better ratingSurface Bella, LLC Response
