My child was transported from a local sole provider hospital to another mental health facility on 3/15-3/16 VIA the company Amerimed EMS. I was not informed that the company was not in network with his insurance. I also never received a bill or an EOB from the insurance company about this date of service. Today 9/09/2022, I received a phone call from a collection agency stating I had a bill of $9,975 sent to them from this company Amerimed EMS. After 9 phone calls over an almost 2 hour time period did I finally get a call back from the billing department. I was told that they had returned mail from my address that they got from the facility even though the facility successfully sent me a statement to that same address. I was told that after getting returned mail that they then got an address from the insurance company which was wrong. When they received returned mail from that address they then sent me to collections instead of trying to reach out with my other contact information. I was then told I needed to talk to a supervisor about my complaint which took another hour to hear from. They stated they are out of network and that even though the insurance will pay $1746.79 that leaves my responsibility $8228.21. I do not think that is appropriate. I was told that the facility he was transferred to has a contract with this company and so I had no other option than to use an out of network transport and it seems to me that should not be legal especially when you aren't told ahead of time. The billing department then told me they are not in network with any insurance company. They tried to offer me a discount but that even is not acceptable when I was not given a choice or told before hand the company was out of network which it seems they would know at the time of service. I feel as though they should accept the payment from insurance and write off the rest as I have already met my deductible and out of pocket.Initial Complaint

My daughter who is a minor was transported from one hospital to another using Amerimed EMS service. I was not notified that the company was out of network for my insurance. I do not have $5700 to pay for the transport. Insurance did pay $2437.50 of the total $8325.00 charge for the 157 mile transport. My out of pocket maximum had been met already and I should have received no charge for the transport.
