In May 2024 I renewed my subscription to the Economist by sending a check for $190 for a one year term. The check was cashed by National Community Services. The Economist advised me that they do not accept checks to renew and canceled my subscription. My belief is that National Community Services **** is liable for $190 and if is a pattern and practice of illegal activity its exposure is significantBusiness response

Customer was directed to our company because we handled customer service on his previous orders that were placed with third-party subscription companies. We do not take payments for The Economist. The check was not sent to our company or cashed by our company. After speaking to the customer, I found out the check was made out to The Economist. They do not accept checks, so it was definitely sent to a third-party company. However, the customer could not find anything that would indicate the company he was dealing with. He did not keep a receipt or write anything in the memo section that would help. The back of the check said it was cashed by Arvest Bank. No information on the stamp that would help the customer either. I have emailed a few different companies inquiring about the customer's payment hoping one of them would end up being the company the customer dealt with. I have not had a response confirming that yet. I have talked to the customer a couple of times explaining if we only knew the company's name, he sent the check to we could point him in the right direction but until then I am unable to help.
