I bought a car recently and received a letter in the mail somehow from a company about the warranty renewal I purchased, alongside my car, from the dealer. The initial letter did not provide the company's name, but had a user ID made for me which lead me to believe it was part of the warranty that came with my car upon purchasing it from the dealer. The letter stated I had to respond to them by 05/03/2024 or I would risk being financially liable for any and all repairs. Believing it was the warranty that came with my initial purchase, i called the company, which turned out to be Fenix Protect, and paid a $195 dollar activation fee. I then then got a letter in the mail saying I owe them an additional $168.00 payment every month for the next 23 months which was never mentioned during the phone call with Fenix Protect. After receiving the conformation letter I realized I was being scammed.

This is in no way a scam.  After reviewing the call, we found the representative did in fact disclose the monthly payments.  If you would like to cancel the policy we would be happy to do that.  Please call the customer ********************** number on the fulfillment packet you received.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do in the future.

Letter received is a clear attempt at misrepresenting with whom a car warranty is being purchased from. It clearly shows CHEVROLET and OFFICIAL BUSINESS but shows no other return mail information. The letter attempts to confuse a person into thinking they are buying an extended warranty for their vehicle from CHEVROLET, yet Chevrolet ****** they do not offer such warranties, IN THIS FORMAT. It is a clearly a scam, and needs to be addressed. At the very least, it uses high pressure business tactics which are forbidden in this *************.

      Mr. *******,

This was not mailed by our company. In searching the number I was able to locate the company the letter is affiliated with and you would have to contact them to be removed from their mailing list.

      Business response

      03/08/2024

We are ************** you know this is for your Chevrolet.  There is a full disclosure at the bottom of the advertisement that states who we are and what disclosures are necessary.  We will place you on our do not mail list.

I am rejecting this response because:

Again, business attempts to mislead and misrepresent. Placing a business name at the bottom of the letter in micro print (where business information is not typically placed in all professional business correspondence), is in no way standard and accepted practice. I have forwarded this complaint to the **************** of ********* General for mail fraud, **** State ************************* and Consumer Protection Bureau. They have all accepted the complaint and all but one have opened investigations. All have been provided with the same image(s) attached to this complaint

We are happy to work with all of those agencies and have done so in the past.  Many state agencies are aware of our advertisement and we have several that have signed off on the appearance.  We are currently working with many others for the same approval.

We've asked this company to stop sending us mailers for years. They just switch the record ID to a different sequence every few months, so it's a way to keep soliciting without accountability. This company has zero ethics.

      Business response

      01/24/2024

We have placed you on our do not mail list.  There are other companies that provide a similar service to ours, but I assure you we would not waste mail on consumers that never responded to our advertisement and don't want our service.  Mail is expensive!  You are probably getting advertisements from other companies.
