The transaction between Harmony and I started on February 14th, 2021 during the freeze that caused my pipes to bust, leaving 2 inches of water in the entire 2595 sqf home. At this time an emergency services agreement was signed on February 18th. 1.With this contract they were to repair pipes and plumbing as needed. 2.To preform mitigation services to my property for all wet/water damaged. 3. As part of hiring Harmony to perform emergency repair and mitigation services, I agreed to allow Harmony construction to perform all services to my property after mitigation complete. The company Harmony construction was paid a total of $63,932.66. The nature of my dispute is as follows; charging for work not done and second for damages done by Harmony construction that had to be repaired and paid for out of my own finances. There is no way they did $63,932.00 worth of work. 1. Wet insulation was left for over 3 months both in the attic and in the rooms with the ceiling collapsed 2. Piles of Trash was left in the main living areas and kitchen 3. Piles of trash left in the driveway without a dumpster 4. Humidifiers weren’t brought to the house until after a month of asking 5. Pipes were left dripping in the kitchen for over 8 months causing the sheet rock to remain wet. 6. Project managers were changed over 4 times with most not coming to supervise the employees who were found numerous times sleeping or fighting amongst themselves. 7. Guest bath tub damaged with removal of tiles and replace with wrong tub which they refused to pay for 8. New water heater damaged while putting in the attic 9. Wrong size attic stairs installed 10. Electric outlets damaged 11. Master bathroom torn up, unusable Harmony gave a check for $ 3,882.00 01/10/2022 which I refused Fox Ch 26 found out about my dilemma and their consumer advocate Heather Sullivan & cameraman came to my house for an interview and my story was aired at 9 PM on February 15, 2022.

First and foremost, I want to make clear that we at Harmony Construction feel terrible for all you had to endure following your home being devastated by last year’s ice storm, including the poor service you subsequently received from our company, for which we sincerely apologize.  We want you to understand the extenuating circumstances behind the issues you experienced.

Thomas ******* founded Harmony in late 2020 with funding provided by a silent investor who believed in Thomas’ stated vision of creating a full-service general contractor with the utmost in integrity, excellence and personalized service.  Thomas hired experienced staff to do project estimating, marketing and other administrative tasks, but he remained the sole in-house expert at providing general contractor services.  Thomas personally took on the task of restoring your beautiful home.  Tragically, this 33-year old Navy veteran died suddenly in July 2021, leaving behind a wife and three young children, and a desperately struggling company.

With little-to-no knowledge of the business, the investor’s choice was to fold the company, leaving customers like yourself in the lurch, or pump a very significant amount of personal funds into the business and seek to find employees to complete the projects already underway.  He chose the latter, immediately hiring Esteban *******, a former employee of Thomas, as a dedicated project manager/field superintendent.  Esteban was put in charge of getting your project back on track.

Following Thomas’ death, it came to our attention that he and the subcontractor he had chosen to work on your house had performed sub-par work.  At our expense, we proceeded to take action to rectify those issues.  Unfortunately, Esteban proved to not be up to the task, failing to handle even simple assignments such as stopping the water leak in your kitchen.  Having been told several times to take corrective action, and eventually falsely claiming he had done so, he was let go.  With no one else to turn to, in late August, we enlisted the help of Jose Guerrero, a very trustworthy subcontractor Harmony had used extensively for other projects.  He brought in his own subcontractor to perform drywall repairs and repaint the entire house.

Understandably, by that time, you were tired of hearing excuses, and you terminated our services.  We proceeded to settle the final invoice, providing the scope of work we believed to have been performed, and requesting your review.

On or around 17 November 2021, a meeting was held at your house to resolve all issues outstanding.  At the meeting on behalf of Harmony were Jose and Dennis, our estimator.  You attended along with your new contractor, Angie *********, and your friend Steve.  The meeting appeared to be productive and, at your instruction, Dennis and Angie began working on a settlement satisfactory to all.  We believed we were all in agreement, but Angie then began making additional demands that we deemed entirely inappropriate.  I informed you that we would henceforth work toward a resolution only through you, not Angie.  We refused her calls, awaiting yours.  Angie then informed us she was contacting local media, which resulted in a broadcast that unfairly characterized the nature of our disagreement, attracting the attention of the Better Business Bureau.

Again, we sincerely apologize for the terrible experience you had with Harmony.  We understand you want retribution.  Please know, however, you are seeking to punish individuals who had no hand in the poor service, and who sacrificed mightily attempting to rectify the issues created by people who, literally, are no longer with us.

We have, in fact, successfully hired a very experienced individual to run Harmony’s remodeling business, and he is receiving outstanding reviews from customers.  Had you not chosen to hire Angie to finish your job, we are confident we could have regained your confidence.

To move forward, we pray you will accept our invitation to return to settlement discussions.  We continue to believe you and we were very close to an amicable settlement. I am hoping we both are ready to put this behind us and move forward with our lives.

       Sincerely,

      Doug ******

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

As of this writing, 4/16/2022, This case IS NOT RESOLVED!!!  I can be reached at ************* ***** ******

I received the message sent to me on 4/1/2022  regarding harmony's/Doug ****** response but I am presently out of town until 4/12 so I have not been about to address harmony's response. I do not want the 10 days as mentioned in the memo to lapse so that you think the issue has been resolved. It certainly has not at this time. Nothing has change except his writing a response to you, not to me.

I sent this message to you via text message but today I received a message saying the bbb did not hear from me so they are closing the case????

AGAIN This case IS NOT RESOLVED!!!

We have a meeting on 4/18/2022 to discuss the issues so this is far from being resolved.

      Regards,

I wanted to let you know that things have not been resolved with the company Harmony.

It has been several weeks since our last meeting and still no word on how they plan to return any of the funds disputed by myself that were given to them towards the repair of my house. Harmony was given written permission by me to communicate with my insurance/******** to get answers to several questions not the least of which is $$ Harmony charged me for which I paid and which ******** is not reimbursing me for.

Anyway, that’s about it for now.

      Thank you

We continue to wait for the customer's insurance adjuster to work with us to supplement her claim.  The adjuster has been out of the office, and the back-up person has not returned calls.

       This has not been resolved

There has not been a court case filed at this time

The reason it has not been resolved is further compensation is expected from harmony on work that was poorly done or completed. They have been waiting to hear from the ******** my insurance company but it has now been several months since our last meeting with no resolution

      Regards,

My issues with Harmony construction have not been resolved. I sent several messages to Harmony but did not get a response.  I am looking for additional compensation after paying them $63,000 for work work not done.  Harmony can blame lack of settlement on the insurance company all they want but the truth of the matter lies in their being willing to settle this financially and get on with life.

I have not filed a complaint with the courts at this time and continue to be optimistic that this can be settled with legal action being the final option. Harmony knows how to contact me.

      Better Business Bureau:

This letter is to inform you that Harmony Construction Group LLC has carried out to my satisfaction the resolution it proposed for my complaint, filed on 2/18/2022 and assigned ID ********.

I am pleased to report that my complaint against Harmony Construction Group LLC is officially withdrawn, as all issues have been resolved to my satisfaction. I am convinced that the current owners and management of Harmony Construction were not responsible for the issues I encountered, and in fact they worked diligently, in caring and honest fashion, to come to our mutually agreed resolution.
