When he was building in *********, **, **** falsely presented himself as a licensed contractor. He illegally took on work for our home that was beyond the monetary threshold allowed by those without a license and lied on the county website during submittal to get the project through. We found this out after we were forced to research deeply into his history and seek legal counsel when he had a sub threaten a lien on our home AFTER WALKING OFF THE **** The sub claimed **** did not pay him and was soliciting us for money despite his contract being directly with **** and his company. Several days into the project, he told us he would be selling his business and moving to ****, where he now conducts his business, but that he would continue to oversee our project. After countless construction issues and an obvious lack of general knowledge (I am an architect, and know building standards), **** walked off the job and left us holding an incomplete structure and permit. But not before trying to trick us into paying the final payment, which was contractually agreed upon to be due at final completion. **** himself admitted to learning everything he knows from "what Mecklenburg County flags" in their inspections and plan reviews. The people conducting said reviews are not even required to have a history in construction or adjacent field and are only looking for glaring code violations. **** continually used outdated and knowingly inferior building methods and argued with us for more money to repair mistakes at the fault of his team. We signed a contract with **** in November of 2022. He did not start construction until July of 2023. EIGHT MONTHS LATER, he still had not completed our partial addition measuring 12 x 16 (2 walls were already existing!). He left us with no warranties on any work. **** demonstrated an intense lack of knowledge regarding the building industry and a lack of integrity overall.
