Literally the worst hospital ever. Unclear instructions, dishonest communication, terrible time management, and taking advantage of minorities that don’t speak English well. Lying to make people use ambulances and declining to have full transparency regarding transfers, this hospital is the perfect example of what is wrong with US healthcare.Review from Terry B

BEWARE! I have been having the same outpatient procedure done for several years now. It started out as every 3 months for several years and is now every 6 months. Each time, I pay the money up front that I'm responsible for based on my current deductible/out of pocket status with insurance which is usually between $2500-$3500. Now, I am being billed an extra over $5000 from the hospital for services in May 2022 and May 2023 each. The hospital says that insurance won't cover; however, they covered the same procedure in Dec. 2021 and Dec 2022 and all other times for the last few years I've been having this same procedure done. When talking to insurance, they have told me that the hospital coded the May procedures differently than the December ones even though it was the same procedure done every time. I cannot get anyone in the hospital to answer me or talk to me about the coding or getting it fixed. Supposedly they use a 3rd party for the coding, but you can't talk to them and the hospital won't take it up with them either. In the meantime, I get daily calls from the collections agency trying to get me to pay a $5000 hospital bill from May that I shouldn't owe if the procedure is coded correctly. Also, my insurance has told me that the hospital has not done any Pre-Authorizations for this procedure since 2020 on me. Why would a hospital tell you that you owe a certain amount upon check-in and then try to charge an extra $5000 when they didn't even check to see what is covered? No one at the hospital will help to get this straightened out and are not friendly at all in helping to get it resolved. In the meantime, I'm afraid that a judgement will be placed by collections on something I don't owe.Review from Lula B

Very poor and violate HIPAA and confidentialities of patients. You’re left in a hallway with patients within 2 feet of you hearing all medical conversations including your history. I went in for an emergency because I could not wait from a diverticulitis flare up and was in so much pain I was crying and could barely move. No medications whatsoever was given to me the whole time I was there and was given as a script for me to get filled the next day. Very sad. I am a nurse and would never violate or treat my patients this way. 2 patients in-front of me was a patient who was homeless and using and could not be controlled and should of not been in the hall with others due to safety concerns. I heard every patient’s around me information and diagnosis. No one ever came around from my insurance or information or to sign for care but I got a lot of outrageous bills sent. This is the 3rd time being treated like this here and that will be my last. LGH you need to learn how to treat and respect patient rights and privacy. This is sad as a nurse. I will never send a patient here every. Stop judging a book by its cover as well, not all patients are in suits and ties. I did not even want to give a 1 star.Review from Margaret B

I was admitted twice in 2022 to Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Once from the ER at the Salem hospital and once from the Cave Spring Satellite ER. I have very high praise for both ERs. The first time in May I only stayed overnight at the hospital facility in Salem and I was well taken care of and nothing to complain about. The second time for 8 days in October was just horrible. Nurses for the most part were attentive but very rushed and sparse. I was hooked up to several tubes so unable to do much of anything for myself. I went 7 days without any type of bathing until I asked for some type of wipes so I could at least wipe myself off before surgery. Surgery was a nightmare as I spent 5 hrs. in "holding" (more like a dungeon) in extreme pain until 11:00PM because no extra anesthesiologist was available. The hospital room was not clean and the food was a nightmare trying to get ordered. Lewis Gale has always been my hospital of choice for almost 30 years but I would definitely think twice about going there again.Lewis-Gale Medical Center, LLC Response

I have a deviated septum and sound more nasal than everyone else. I got injured at work and was sent to this place for an x-ray of my arm to make sure there was no tears in tendons or nerve damage. From the moment I checked in, they automatically assumed I was after opioids or whatever I can get. They put me in a room WITH A CAMERA that clearly hadn't been used in a while, and, when it is in use, it's for people in police custody as I found out later. The "doctor" came in, looked at my arm and smugly said, "that's it?" Then I heard later at the nurses station. They remarked 4 times they were going to clean my arm where it was covered it dirt, and NO ONE DID. They came in wrapped it in an ace-bandage and sent me on my way. Later, I got a few letters in the mail saying they "conducted an investigation about my treatment" and they didn't find any wrongdoing. Of course not! WHY WOULD THEY?!? I would rather die than go back there. Clearly from the other reviews on this place, they need restaffed because no one gives two-craps about the people or how they're treated. This place makes me wish I never moved to Roanoke.Review from cindy u

Transferred from another hospital for speciality care ..neurologist...was not seen by one, one did not even do a review of records...stroke protocols were.not followed..med req was not done..ER RNs were rude ! Doctors reviewing tests did not call with results..had to ask several times for results of all tests...MD over the stroke team did not come into the room, did not speak to or ask the patient questions, did not do a Neuro exam..was only interested that patient was a prior smoker...RNs in ER and ICU violated HIPPA by loudly discussing patient and using patients name Records dept took over 20 days to forward copies of records to another facility...medications were not given correctly...administration was made aware of issues but still have not called to discuss our concerns...will be filing a complaint with corporate in NashvilleReview from Dwayne W.

Worst service ever stayed in the ER for 2 days never got my blood pressure medicine never got my anti-rejection medication for my kidney transplant, the floors had old needle wrappings from Lord knows when, they never empty the trash can and I'm still feeling the effects of my blood pressure rising to 185 over 120 because they refuse to give me my medicine. I went in for low blood sugar and all they gave me to eat the next day was cut up cantaloupe and honeydew with cottage cheese and then for lunch a dry chicken breast and some dry macaroni salad that was itReview from Lauren F

I broke my ankle in September and needed to go to the emergency room for care. The hospital was understaffed which is totally understandable due to Covid however, no one that came into my room offered genuine help. I waited 45 minutes after asking to go to the bathroom before my roommate carried me to a public bathroom in the lobby. My roommate ended up sleeping on the floor that night. Drs and nurses kept their backs to me the entire time and were very disrespectful. I waited close to 16 hours without food, water or fluids waiting for surgery only to have it pushed back even further. I finally received my surgery and left the next day. Now, I am getting phone calls from debt collectors because the hospital had my wrong address and never entered in my insurance even though these were both provided. I have never received a single bill from Lewis Gale and have spoken to about 20 people to get advice and clarity on this issue. Not one person was able to help, no one in the billing department was able to give the same answer. I never thought I would say this but I am very grateful to be in collections and done with Lewis Gale. This hospital has been a nightmare to work with. I truly hope this review is taken seriously and you're able to provide better care in the future.Review from Sue S

I had a OBGYN appointment with Dr ***** and her nurse was extremely rude. She greeted me with “ you are late for your appointment” and when I showed her the appointment confirmation email to confirm that I was NOT late she told me that I was late and that I was also late last time which I told her that I wasn’t but she didn’t believe me and even asked the front desk as if I was lying. Last time she was also rude and not helpful. I’d rather see Dr ***** than to deal with Dr ******* nurse again.
