On 10 Sept. 2021 we hired Top Hat Chimney Sweep and Repair because we had spalding bricks on two chimneys (1 large and 1 small) that needed to be fixed per our insurance company. The repairs were completed on 21 Sept. 2021 and we paid $3671.80. Within a few weeks their work was cracking and pieces were falling off of the chimney. We had our neighbor who is a home inspector climb up and inspect. He informed us that the work was cracking and he took pictures. I had tried contacting Top Hat several times but we had to leave messages and calls were never returned. Once they actually did answer a call, which I am sure was by accident, I let them know what was happening and they said they would call me back. They never called back. I then repeatedly tried to call but there was never an answer or a returned call. We are now getting estimates to have our chimney rebuilt as there are more and more pieces falling off and every contractor has informed us what a terrible repair job this was. The last contractor, **** from RT General Construction **************/************** a BBB member, stated he would give you a detailed description of what the chimney looks like if you need that. We are seeking to be refunded the $3671.80 as we now have to pay to have the chimney rebuilt.Business response

Response: To date Top Hat has not come out to inspect the work they have done and they have not reached out to even address the issue other than their response to the BBB. I do not see how an adequate assessment can be made when they have not seen the degradation of their repairs. Their estimated refund is unacceptable for this reason. At this point we do not trust their work and would not like them to repair anything. We are requesting a full refund as it is not by choice that we are having the chimney rebuilt but rather out of safety and necessity. We have had multiple contractors come out to evaluate the chimneys and they have all given us the same advice which is to rebuild from the roofline up. We are willing to have one of the contractors or an inspector come out to ***** what a fair refund would be if this is necessary.
