The contractor got the money ($8000) and did little of the roof change the stopped and disappeared, the agreement is to complete roof change and bathroom remodel , that caused me problems especially after the rain and the damage to the ceiling .

      Business response

      08/30/2023

Since the beginning of working with ************, he was very pushy on pricinging. When we gave him a package deal for the roof he needed replaced and bathroom, ************ tried to barter and negotiate the price down further. Being of ethnic background, I understood this may be a cultural response from ************. I explained to him that we would not be giving an additional on top of the package deal, even though he persisted.

Upon demo of the roof, the discovered that there was 2 layers of roofing. When we brought this to **************** attention, he said that he already knew. He failed to mention this to us upon discussing the scope of work. This required double the labor to remove two layers and double the weight at the dump. ************ refused to pay for the additional labor. Trying to keep the job going and everyone happy, I settled for paying for the labor out of my pocket while ************ agreed to pay a mere HALF of the dump fees. This was skewed in his favor on top of being a package deal for *************

After we got both layers of roofing off, **************** roof had individual boards for his sheathing. This is a very old house (approx. 80yrs) and had never been replaced. There were several damaged spots in the sheathing and it needed to be repaired for proper installation and longevity of the roof. When I explained this to ************ and told him that it would be additional labor and material of $700, which was way under market pricing for what any other company would have charged, ************ became angry and said that I again needed to pay for this out my pocket. I pulled up the estimate and showed ************ that it was not included in our original scope of work. After a few hours, ************ calmed down and accepted the additional repairs.

Upon completion of the repairs and dry-in (papering of the room) ************ called me very angry. He was questioning me why the repair value was so much and exclaimed that I didn't know what I was doing and that he's not paying. Again, I explained to ************ that this is how we have to patch the older style roofs prior to shingling. ************ grew more upset. Mr. *********;was yelling at me, telling me he's not paying for any of the work and to not come back to the job and that we are done. Upon yelling this, he immediately hung up on me. He made it very clear that he was not paying for any further work regardless weather it is done or not.

After this, I completed and closed out **************** file and account per his request and sent him a final statement reflecting his account as a $0 balance so we can both officially part ways. We executed on the agreement that the deposit was non-refundable and ************ chose to stop work.

************ was very disrespectful to me through out this process which made it difficult to maintain my professionalism, although I still managed to deescalate the situation time and time again. People like ************ take advantage of hard working people like me and my crew who try to make an honest living. I do not recommend any contractor to do work with ************. He will not pay and try to take advantage of you.

      Thank you for your help

the response is fabrication , not real , we never had argument about the cost of two layers roof , neither the cost of labour and materials $700 , I needed to change the agreement about the bathroom , he responded harshly offensive way , I responded the same way , later I received an e mail ending the work , I apologized if I upset him , and asked him several times to come complete the work , he got the $8000 and disappeared leaving his trash all over , the house without roof damaged by the rain at that week , all what he did cost less than a thousand dollars, I had to hire another contractor who did the job honestly and perfectly , so he owes me at least $7000 plus $200 the cost of dumping his trash, what he did is theft and scam , thank you
