We hired *************************** with Base Enterprises for a home renovation project. He was supposed to side our house, create a new back patio, and do a full kitchen renovation. This process started in April, and none of which are complete. ***** cashed two different checks, equal to the amount of $48,605 dollars in May, while never ordering the cabinets or windows that he promised he ordered for our renovation. He attempted to repay us after we told him we were not going through with the kitchen renovation, to which his check bounced. He has since told us he does not have the money to repay us. He has left our house in shambles with open exposed walls to the exterior, dry wall removed and left open without insulation and electrical exposed while we have cats and young children. He haphazardly has left our house in a dangerous condition, and continues to lie and tell us he will be there to fix it, but never shows up. He is dangerous, fraudulent and a professional scammer. He needs to have his license revoked.Initial Complaint

My mother and I hired Base Enterprise (B.E.) to build ** a garage and breezeway. They are working on it and nearly done. However, they take longer and longer to do the work. We were given the contract agreement May 2022. We put a question mark on the completion date, because the completion date was not filled out. The contract stated they would start 8/22/22 (they did not)I put a question mark on that spot of the contract , which would indicate completion date. When we got our contract back in the mail. Our $50 grand check was cashed but B.E. did not let us know when they would complete the project. I repeatedly asked the job ******* when it would be finished he told me 6 times, "It will go quick; the framing will only take 3 or 4 days".The last 2 times he told me this I asked him when the total project would be done. He did not answer me. Now, 1yr later still we have no idea when this will be done. I would like your help in understanding the date when the job is completed. We have been yelled at, lied to, mislead about quality of service and work. We have been bullied and harassed for payments when work was unfinished or incomplete. We have been threatened if we don't pay the sub-contractors will be mad. 2/9/23 I was accused of owing money for items not ordered.I have proof of all of this in emails and texts. We have been regularly told that items will be completed by a certain date. The date comes and go, with incomplete work, without an explanation as to why,This is a toxic relationship and we want it to be over ASAP.We want B.E. to finish the job and clean up their messes. In a recent email the owner tells me that he will do a few things, but he doesn't address the little incompleted items and the poor work that needs to be redone. So, far that is our biggest request we want to know in writing the date this will be done. The owner told us matter of factly that they built an ADU and it only took 3 months. Why is our project taking so long?Business response

Our scope of work for ********* and ***** was to build a garage with a breezeway connected to their home. We signed papers mid 2022 and began pre-construction. This job, with many other jobs, hit its first series of delays with the city's permitting department. Once the permit was finally issued, we began work. The excavation of this garage then quickly hit our second delay. Our excavator ran into a series amount of rock and we had to pivot to jackhammering out rock to get this foundation low enough to comply with code. These delays ended up pushing us into the early winter/freezing season which forced us to work around less than ideal conditions. Pouring concrete in this type of weather involves a much more involved and time-consuming process.
Though we tripped at the starting line, we remained optimistic with out client. Unfortunately our optimism came across as empty promises.
Throughout this project, and projects like this, delays arise and projects are pushed. With our client, we never promised a firm start date because we do not want to create false expectations in a profession full of inevitable delays and uncertainties. As the project progressed and delays arose, our client became more frustrated. Added delays to the project came from our client, *********, sending our tradesmen away for unknown reasons. This forced us to reschedule our busy tradesmen to come back at later dates.
I can assure that my client was never yelled at by anyone on our team or the subcontractors we hired to help complete the job. We pride ourself in our customer relations and aim to make building/remodeling as easy a process as possible. The frustration of the delays, led our client to requesting only speak to myself, the owner. I complied with the request, along with other requests, and we plan to finish the rest of the job this way.
We are nearing the completion of this project and plan to finalize the garage/addition soon. The rest of the work to be done are details including caulking, touchup painting, and a small amount of excavation work. We are proud of what we built for ********* and ***** and hope they can enjoy this garage for years to come! It truly is a beautiful addition to their home.
