Contacted Shefchik's energy service. for a quote on replacement windows for my home. The owner. **** came over and give me a quote for the total. replacement of all windows with installation start to finish. and gave.me his word that once the new windows were installed, I would be nice and toasty in my home as the crew was installing. The windows I noticed all the cracks. around the seem of the windows were not sealed on the inside of the house and I ask the lead guy if he was going to complete the bead on the spots he was missing he said no need to cause of today's technology so I went outside to see if any of the crew needed. to warm up or Any refreshments and while doing so I noticed. the bead on the outside of the window wasn't completed on the outside either so all windows are in they will have to return the following day to complete the job the windows look great so I leave and go to the store to buy all new shades got back home the house was like a ice chest started looking around and the windows in the basement were not straight you could see right out the side of them so i stuffed rags in the openings until the next day Shefchiks service came back the next day and finished up was on a thursday 2/24/24.had to run the heat on 78 degrees just to keep from freezing to death it was only 29 degrees out called **** he brought over his senior crew leader and he told me that they can install 7 windows with 1. 20.oz can of foam I looked up th specs it calls for 3 to 4 cans. my house is really drafty and cold it was not like that before the window experiment So I AM asking **** and Shefchiks energy to do the job he promised or refund some of my money so I can have it done RIGHT. I was a man of my word and paid what was ask. now I need the service that was promised.Business response

We installed these windows on Jan. 23rd & 24th. Late in the afternoon on Friday the 26th the homeowner called & said it was cold in his house, So I scheduled a time for Jan 30th to go over & look at everything & inspect the installation. I also brought one of my lead installers to look over the project. In our findings the windows did appear to be completed inside & out. However, he did have concerns we didn't use enough spray foam & that's why it was cold. Myself & my lead guy both knew that was unlikely, however in our attempt to be sure to have a happy &satisfied customer we agreed to tear apart the caps from the outside, inject more spray foam, & recap the windows again. The following week we went back to do. When we tore off the cap to inspect, I asked my lead to also remove the outside trim (not done as a common practice, that trim is typically capped in aluminum like we did) However, our finding behind the outside trim showed no insulation in the house wall all the way back to the drywall. So, there was a 2" wide hole uninsulated. After finding that we drilled through 2 other areas to check for insulation. There was none. We immediately called the homeowner to come home so we could show the homeowner where the problem was coming from & offered 2 different solutions. The findings we found are not covered as part of standard replacement window projects. So, our first offer was for us to do as a change order extra to correct this. (we had all tore apart and would do while we had it apart & wouldn't have charged for having to recap everything seems how we already agreed to tear apart to inspect) The cost would have been for the extra time in labor & materials needed to do. Plus, I offered he could pay that over payments if he couldnt do right away. The second solution, we leave the windows uncapped so he could have someone come blow insulation in the cavity like the rest of the home was done & when that got finished, we would go back and recap at that time for no charge. My installers we there & did mention to him that he could also do it himself from the inside, explaining that it was behind the inside trim & the drywall behind that. He decided he would do that himself this summer he said. The windows replaced have high efficiency glass & are insulated. He says his house wasnt cold before & just wanted to get rid of the plastic so he could see outside again. Im sure the windows were cold & drafty and for that reason plastic was put on. He changed his windows with well insulated airtight windows meaning the cold isnt coming through the window opening any longer & now being forced through the uninsulated areas. This is the homeowners home & we would have been happy to fix the problem, however this was not part of the contract or project so we can not be held responsible for financial part of his home repairs.Customer response

I disagree with what he's saying they need to come over and fix the gaps that was there as part of the window installation as he explained to me up on the quote]

Insulating the uninsulated areas of the exterior walls adjacent to the window openings wasnt part of the Quote or the agreed contract, nor is it part of window replacement. This wouldnt even be discovered on install because exterior trim doesnt get removed it gets capped or covered. This is a common practice in replacing windows.
The uninsulated areas of the exterior walls only got discovered after we tore off the caps and trim. After finding this we offered multiple solutions (as stated before) to fix this as a change order extra. This is nothing different than opening up an area and finding rotten lumber (if it was an unknown & wasnt figured it should be a change order) The home owner said he was going to insulate from the inside himself & chose not to have us do it when we had the caps off. We did this removal, inspection, and reinstallation of capping at no additional charge.Customer response

I do not accept the hogwash he is trying to put out there my house was not cold wind blowing anywhere before the window will install my utility bills will prove that if he would come over take off his sweater and set for a minute he would feel and try and find where the air is coming from that is a fake determination he is coming up with he needs to complete the job cuz I am not going to stop until something is done about this hack job so no I do not accept what he is putting out there because I never had the issue until the window install and they did not replace the extra five to six inches of wood that they removed from original window frame that is what the cause of the coldness is I have talked to Window installers and they said all wood removed needs to be replaced with new wood or sealed with installation he did not do either so where do we go from here
Regards,
