We booked a room here and were refused our reservation due to my husband bringing his service dog. My husband recently retired after 20 years active duty in the US Marine Corps. While it states on their website that they don’t allow pets, therapy animals, or emotional support animals, those are entirely different things than a formal service dog that is trained to support a disability. Their pet policy does not override the law (the Americans with Disabilities Act, “Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go”). The front desk staff informed my husband that she’d attempted to reach him via phone earlier in the day to notify us before we arrived, however, we had no missed calls or voicemails, nor did this appear on our phone record. And when my husband repeatedly asked to speak with a manager or owner to clarify and show documentation of our service dog status, she repeatedly told him they were unavailable. I am beyond disappointed and sad that there are human beings that continue to not only disregard laws our country have in place to support citizens with disabilities, but even more so the complete lack of respect, acknowledgement, and accountability on the part of the owners of this business. Disabilities come in all forms, including mental health. I highly doubt the owners would refuse someone to stay there if they had a wheelchair, hearing aids, a white mobility cane, etc. My husband uses his service dog for his mental health diagnoses. The disrespect and ignorance the owners of this business have demonstrated in their refusal of our reservation due to us bringing his service dog, and breaking the law by doing so, were highly distressing for my husband. I’m disgusted with their actions and hope that any patriotic citizen would not patronize a business such as this.
