Penfolds reroofed our flat-roofed home in North Van. approximately a decade ago. My elderly Dad paid extra to put a small slope on the roof, which we discovered after his death and substantial water damages, had not been done. Nor had all the original sheathing been replaced.I'm truly hoping we are a one-off situation.

I would like to thank Penfolds for a wonderful experience regarding the re-shingling of our house with Cedartwin Plus Asphalt shingles and the Continuous Ridge Vent System. I have to admit that the final cost made my heart skip a beat (or 2 or 3) but living in a house that was built in the early fifty's it was to be expected and I was prepared for it. Everyone I dealt with was professional, polite and best of all, all had a great sense of humour. The roofing crew (of 5 or 6 men) were amazing - organized, efficient and well trained in their profession. Our house is a small rancher but needless to say, the job was beautifully completed in 2 days!! I am also very grateful for Penfolds understanding of the pressure that an insurance company can put on a client to have a job done by a certain date - or else!! Staff were well aware of our situation and without special treatment (and a break in the weather) the job was completed with time to spare!! Yes, I would recommend Penfolds.

In May 2024, Penfolds Roofing re-shingled our roof, and we are very pleased with the result. We were truly impressed with the roofing crew and the job they did. They were friendly, polite, very hard-working and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. Without exception, everyone we dealt with was a pleasure to work with, from the initial contact with the technical advisor/estimator to the contact with the project coordinator and the field supervisor and finally the roofing crew. I am disappointed as I had our roof replaced last August 2021. A worker dropped a tool through our plexiglass awning and then attempted to hide it with clear cocking. My husband noticed when we were sitting on our deck. I contacted Penfolds and a person came out and said it was true because the cocking was still not hardened. It took 5 months to get the piece of plexiglass replaced and only because I found a company that supplied it (I did all the phoning). They offered cash but I said I wanted it fixed. There is a plastic tag waving in the wind on the front corner of the new metal fascia (2n floor) where I drive in (just lazy by not removing it). They also left black marks all over the side of my house where they were dropping shingles (i had to complain for them to come and wash them off). Over the last 8 months I have watched my roof get greener and greener where a downspout is not connected to the lower gutter. I realize there wasn't one on the original roof but my husband assured me the company were the experts and if one was needed they would put one on. Now, I have been quoted 600.00 to put a 6 foot gutter piece to stop the water from running on it and it can't be done for 3-4 months. I asked if our roof would withstand moss when I agreed to the shingles and am now being told it is only algae not moss resistant. I would not recommend this company.

We appreciate your comments and are using this information to ensure these details aren't missed in the future, but also to make sure we address issues appropriately as they arise. We always do our best to resolve these kinds of things before they become a problem. As soon as you mentioned the issue with the plexiglass awning, our team jumped into action trying to source the appropriate materials within days. Unfortunately, the plexiglass product was an uncommon size which was on backorder for nearly 3 months. As soon as the materials arrived, it was installed. Connecting downspouts to gutters can help reduce black lines from appearing on the shingles, which is the primary purpose of this downspout extension. Many customers don't like the look of the downpipe running along their roof and therefore don't want to pay the extra cost. Either solution is acceptable and will not affect the roof. The notes on your file don't indicate any conversation regarding this issue, and had we known your preference in advance, we would have included that in the initial installation. I am surprised you were told that shingles would withstand moss, because moss is one of the biggest enemies for all roofers in the Pacific Northwest. There are some measures that can be taken to minimize or delay moss growth. The porous nature of asphalt shingles is an easier surface for moss to bond with. Metal roofing and rubber roofing can face moss issues as well, but the moss is much more easily removed. So unfortunately, there is very little we can do to entirely escape moss in our environment.
