    In Dec 2021 flooding in my basement occurred as the result of a storm. My insurance co. dispatched First General to repair the damage. It was determined that due to prior claims my insurance co. would not be covering the costs. Shortly after, the estimator gave me a ballpark quote of $3500-$4000. The higher amount was if drywall had to be removed which was not the case. I was shocked today to get the final estimate of $5877.30. When questioned, Travis mentioned HST and equipment rental which obviously should have been included in his original quote. I have no complaints regarding the work completed.

    The insured is responsible for the emergency and the repair the estimate was for the repair, as the emergency services were already completed.
    Our invoice included the estimated work to be completed . Then we added the emergency work... so this is just a misunderstanding . ......and does not warrant a bad review

    This response is not what I was given when I questioned the "estimator" directly with the difference between his quote & the final invoice. He mentioned HST as well as the cost of the water heater which had been included in his original verbal estimate. My purpose in submitting this complaint is to prevent another hapless soul from the same type of treatment **************************. Also, I was given no choice in the type or cost of the water heater & since it was on my dime I think that should have been offered. It was much more expensive than others I could have chosen.
    The response from the business called it merely a misunderstanding. I beg to differ. *************************************************************** ********

    You got the exactly same hot water tank you had....and we discounted the equipment needed to dry the basement. .
    Im sorry that the communication was not better. You could have reached out to the office with your concerns. Again im sorry you did not feel we were fair. .....

    You can ask your broker or insurance company. But we don't make up the numbers...we are guided by the insurance company on the cost.....

    One final comment regarding First General's most recent response. I did "reach out" to the company shortly after receiving their invoice. and was immediately transferred to the estimators cell #. At no time after that was I contacted by anyone else. I am aware that we received the same water heater which was a top of the line model. Since we were paying for this ourselves, we would have chosen a more reasonable one as our income has diminished since we purchased the last one. This will be my final comment, despite how the business has framed things I will avoid their services in the future if at all possible. Again, my issues are not with the men who did the work apart from the estimator.

    Again, we are sorry that you were not given more information. But we are a general contractor. We can't control what specific trades, like plumber charge......
    We can only pass the bill on to you....
    The insurance industry has a very specific pricing guid line. We can't change it. But we can't control sub contractor charges.
    As for the issues with our staff.
    A phone call to his supervisor would be a good start.
    We only received a letter from you, after you had made the complaint to the BBB.
