The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government’s allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On July 1, 2024, the Connecticut Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Sunrun, Inc. and Sunrun Installation Services. Also named in the lawsuit, two companies and two individuals (affiliated with these companies) that Sunrun contracted with for door-to-door marketing, sales and installation services.
According to the complaint, it is alleged that the individuals affiliated with the marketing companies Sunrun contracted with impersonated consumers during confirmation calls, forged signatures, failed to provide proper copies of contracts and failed to disclose excessive charges. It is also alleged local permits were not obtained causing delays in the delivery which in turn caused consumers to pay for systems that were not operational. The complaint alleges that Sunrun worked in common enterprise with these companies and is charged with 4 counts of violating The Connecticut Unfair Trade Practice Act (CUTPA).
BBB received the following response from Sunrun, Inc.:
"At Sunrun, we highly value each of our customers and pride ourselves on leading the industry in customer experience.
The sales representatives and installation crews involved in the Connecticut Attorney General’s lawsuit were not Sunrun employees. We have revoked their access to all Sunrun platforms and products and have not accepted any new accounts from them since November 2023. While Sunrun has in-house sales and installation teams, we also work with a network of experienced partners and subcontractors who have access to sell and install our products and services. We require all our partners to adhere to our strict code of conduct and high-quality standards. In these instances, the sales representatives and installation crews allegedly did not meet our expectations, which we are addressing through the lawsuit and otherwise. We are committed to working with the CT Attorney General’s office to fully resolve any remaining issues with the customers involved."
