I was issued a quote for homeowners insurance but when the policy was issued it was much more expensive. I was told that the reason was a lapse in my previous policy (3 days). I submitted a 4-point inspection and was told weeks later that I had to fix a leaky hose bib and exposed electrical. The so-called exposed electrical was an old bit of conduit that was disconnected and had no power. I fixed these issues but then I was told they had to have proof that the work was done by licensed contractors. I then spent hundreds of dollars to have work done that I could have done myself for less than $50. I was about to submit proof of repairs as I had been told by the agent (Family First Insurance) that this proof would prevent cancellation if submitted before June 9th. I would have everything done and submitted by June 6th, but I received a letter in the evening of June 5th that I could not get the cancellation rescinded and to contact my agent to look for other insurance. All of this was made worse because I could not communicate directly with Florida Peninsula. All communication had to go through my agent which slowed everything down. I will no longer try to keep this insurance or Agent.Florida Peninsula Insurance Company Response

We require repairs are made from a licensed contractor. The insured did provide proof of the repairs and the policy has been reinstated without any lapse in coverage. A reinstatement letter was sent to the insured on June 6th.Review from Todd S

Florida Peninsula just sent us a notice of non-renewal by mail. How impersonal and spineless not to contact us directly about this. Have never had an insurance claim, they happily took our money and are now running away. I say good ridence and I can guarantee I won't be doing business with FPI ever again.Review from CYNTHIA W

Like most of SW Florida, we were hit by Hurricane *** in September 2022. since then we have been hitting nothing but roadblocks and denials from Florida Peninsula Insurance. We have supplied all information requested by them and still have not received most of our claim payments. In particular our condominium loss of use claim was denied even though we have ***** dollars of coverage. Our building has had the certificate of occupancy removed since September 2022.We have been renting ever since in SW Florida. My mother who is 96 years old and sister who is her care giver are at their **** end.The communication from Florida Peninsula has been terrible . Stay away from this Insurance company. They gladly take your premiums and do not pay when you need it.Florida Peninsula Insurance Company Response

We are unable to locate a claim in our files with the name, email, and zip code provided with this review. We would appreciate more specific information such as the insureds name, email address used on the claim, or loss address so we may investigate these concerns further. Thank you.Review from Dean L

Like most of SW Florida, we were hit hard by Hurricane Ian in September 2022. We had Florida Peninsula since our house was built in 2011 and have paid our premiums on time and in full. Of course, when we actually filed a real claim, Florida Peninsula felt that everything was under the deductible and paid nothing except for $500 for refrigerator contents. And then they illegally proceeded to drop us and we can't find coverage because house repairs that they paid nothing for have not been completed yet, like most of Fort Myers. I would recommend Florida Peninsula to anyone who likes to throw away money.Review from Magdalena T

After paying you over $5.800 a year for six years and never filing a claim even after hurricane ***, living on a canal in ********** ,SWFL you all know we were a direct hit. I prepared my house and did what I could after. Almost filed a claim for *******, but as it was only six months old, so it was insured by Craftsman Roofing. (Florida Pen. told me any damage was from Hurricane **** in September 2017, five years before the roof was put on. Check building permits? No, make the client go away.)When you insure an antique, you will pay a lot. If you have a claim, it is 200 years of wear and tare.Review from Glenn B

My parents have this company, so not impressed! They don't call back or acknowledge your emails. Sorry, a BOT telling me they received my email means nothing. Guess who isn't renewing the policy this year?Review from John b

More like Florida Peninsula FRAUD Co. I called the day after the hurricane, It took over two weeks to get an adjuster to look at my damages. He never showed and called me after the appointment time to say he had car trouble. He finally made it a week later. I have damages that caused roof leakage, making the ceiling in my living area fall in. Leaking that caused water damages to my pantry. The soffit over my front door is severely damaged. The claim was processed OVER a month later.. and DENIED. I was told it is all water damage and since I don't have flood insurance they won't pay anything. WHAT!! This is hurricane damages. My roof NEVER leaked until hurricane ***, yet the adjuster said this was NOT caused by the hurricane. REALLY? The female I spoke to on the phone was trite and rude. Said unless I get a specific type of insurance they don't pay. She said, 'your policy is over 70 pages and states that this is not something we pay for." I NEVER received a 70 page document! So, this company is collecting my two grand a year... for what again? Now I am stuck, I can't engage another carrier unless the damages are repaired, and I can't afford to have them done. What a shameful way to do business. I am a 72 year old disabled veteran, and now living in substandard home, because I can't afford to leave. Thanks for NOTHING Florida Peninsula Insurance.Review from Michael C

A bunch of incompetent clowns. Actually, that would be an insult to a clown. They sent out two different adjusters to look at the damage from Hurricane *** and the first guy never turned in the paper work so they sent out another adjuster. She was in/out and as of today still haven't heard anything back. It is going on one month and nothing. I understand they are busy but come on. Insurance companies are out to MAKE MONEY not to pay it out. I'll be anxious to see what happens when and if this ever gets to settlement.Florida Peninsula Insurance Company Response

Typical shady Florida home insurer. They will take your money initially, but raise rates shortly after with no real reason. If they insurer did not properly asses your homes value and had to double insurance cost within a few months, this is not a market correction, it is blatant bait and switch. Fast forward to four years later with all premiums paid on time and no claims, Company advised a inspector was coming for a standard inspection to confirm no new damage or issues had arisen at my house. Inspector asked a couple of standard questions - do you have smoke detectors, do you have security systems? After that, it was all roof related concerns mainly about the age (19 years). Inspector did not physically check my roof (which is in fantastic condition, not my opinion had a roofer check for myself), he walked around the house then left. I then get a email notice of updated profile activity, but no indication as to what. I log on line and find they declined to renew my policy. I did not even get an option to replace my roof, just dropped like a hot potato. I immediately contact USAA who had no problems issuing me a cheaper policy after wind mitigation documents and inspection forms were successfully submitted (confirming roof is in excellent condition). All in all, this worked out well for me as I now am with the best homeowner insurer there is, but what a despicable way to run your business and I only shudder to think of the endless red tape Florida Peninsula would have sent my way had I actually needed to file a claim (reviews on that process are atrocious!) . Bottom line, do better research than I initially did, and don't try to save a couple of dollars going with a fishy company.
