            My mother was a patient at Orlando Regional Medical Center from 12/23/2023. She remained under their care until her discharge date of 02/21/2024. On January 21, my mother was left in the bathroom alone, as a fall risk, where she subsequently fell and broke her left leg. She was not operated on until January 27th, nearly a week later. Later, she was transferred to multiple facilities, and eventually developed a blood clot as a result of immobility. She passed away on June 2nd as a result of her fall, according to the medical examiner. Upon her admission to Orlando health, my mother had two unfractured lower extremities, and was not in that condition when discharged.

            I think my wife and daughter are content with the care from orlando health, but doctors billing codes and billing department is ridiculous. On a routine checkup my daughter had her ears checked and she was fine,... but there was a small smooth bead that I guess had fallen in her ear when her and her friends ended up playing with and throwing beads around a day or two before her check up. It was a small bead,... wasnt causing her any discomfort, or infected,... would have probably just fallen out when she went swimming or cleaned her ears ******* wife said the doctor grabbed a swab or something and took it out as he was inspecting her ears. Took 1-2 minutes of the check up. He charged it as an "Operation" on our bill for $300+. I have sent numerous responses to the bills I have received asking for an explanation or correction of the bill for the "operation" the doctor performed, but no responses ... just the same bill being sent again and again to us without any explanation. I pay all other parts of the bill that seem reasonable, but not for an "operation" for taking a little bead out of my daughters ear for $300?! If they at least provided some kind of response that would be nice. Lazy greedy billing department.

            I have reviewed the parent complaint, the below are my findings:

            Orlando Health Billing has made several attempts to contact the patients parent to discuss the above concerns. Messages were left, and a return call was never received.

            Upon reviewing the charges, I found that the patient was never charged for an operation as ********************** stated. The *** code ***** was used for the removal of a foreign object from the ear canal. The balance on the patient account was applied to the deductible by the patients Cigna plan.


            Today, September 19, 2024, I also placed a call to ************ and was directed to voicemail. I left a message with my contact information for the parent to return my call to discuss the billing concern further.

            I will continue to follow the account until I can make contact with **********************.
