Paid off several car loans with this credit union over the last few years. I have a small balance left on my last loan. After I pay that off, I will never bank here again. This is a horrible credit union that is not for its members. I've had many terrible experiences while being a member there. Once I pay off my last loan, I'm going to withdraw my money from savings, and I will never do business with them again. If I were to give a recommendation to someone wanting an auto loan or any kind of loan, or even considering putting your money in a checking or savings account, I definitely would recommend banking somewhere else. Do not put your money in this credit union. There have been many mistakes and errors with money, and they also have a very high employee turnover rate.Decatur Earthmover Credit Union Response

Regarding the consumer complaint for Lara Conaway for service and error resolution with Decatur Earthmover Credit Union. Our records show Ms. Conaway has been a member for several years and has loan and deposit history with the credit union. It is the goal of the credit union to work with members and make corrections to any errors which are determined to be the result of fault by the credit union. In review of the members’ account no errors were found to have been made by the credit union, on either her loan or deposit accounts, all payments, deposits and withdrawals have been credited accurately. Member expectations and requests for assistance do not always line up with the best practices or abilities for the credit union to correct, therefore leaving a disconnect between the member and the credit union regarding the level of service we are able to provide. Ms. Conaway has been working with senior staff members, while the perception of turnover rate is noted, there is no correlation to the root of this complaint.Review from Britt D

This is possibly the worst place to bank in ******* and I DO NOT recommend. I had a check from the nursing home that my grandmother is in, as I am her power of attorney. I do not have an account with them and I bank out of town. So in attempt to get it cashed quickly, I tried to endorse it over to my children’s father who does have an account there. We called first just to make sure we didn’t waste any time and were told over the phone that they DO cash third party checks and to go with both of our ID’s. So we went up there with the check and both ID’s.. were told by the teller, Brianna, to write on the check, endorsing it. Sent the check back up to, just for her to send it back and say “I’m sorry, we don’t cash third party checks”. So she lied?! I then called their customer service number and was told they do cash third party checks and to go back up there. They then come up with the story that the check was “loo large” and they couldn’t risk the possibility of the check bouncing. Lol. Ok. I showed account information from the nursing home on paper and the supervisor rudely says “well, that’s just a piece of paper”. So then I asked if she would like to call the nursing home and verify the check. “No”. OK! I left after wasting over an hour dealing with them, with a sick, hot 5 year old in the car. Went to the currency exchange and they cashed in in less than 10 minutes. They simply called and verified the check with the nursing home just like Earth Movers could have done, but they’re too stuck up and lazy and would rather accuse someone of trying to cash a bogus check.Decatur Earthmover Credit Union Response

Decatur Earthmover Credit Union does accept third party checks. The credit union also reserves the right to approve check acceptance on a case-by-case basis. When phone contact was made there was limited information given to determine if the check made to a non-member would be accepted against the member account mentioned. Once the check was presented and reviewed, the supervisor determined the risk on this third party check was too great and refused the transaction.Review from Samantha B.

Do not get a car loan from this place they will screw you.....got a loan for an SUV and a personal loan....SUV loan was in my name and my boyfriend was a cosigner.....both of us had some major health issues come up.....they did not want to work with us so both loans got behind, we were denied payment for 2 months on the SUV because personal loan was behind and they decided that a 600 dollar left on the loan was more important then paying the car 6,000 dollar car loan..which we were 3 months behind and I had an over draft fee from price gouging on late frees by thing time my health was bad and couldn't work.....another reason they wouldn't let us make payments til I paid the overdraft fees which I was not bc I signed up for overdraft protection and still was charged 28 dollar for every over draft fee which ended up turning into 200 some dollar....im still not working at this point but my boyfriend would make any payments he could to get us caught up.....went to pay the SUV bill one day n they wouldn't let me unless I paid the personal loan which we didn't have enough to so one employee told me theyd rather us catch up the personal loan so we payed on the personal loan like she said.....they didn't call me or my boyfriend the co signer to give us last attempt to reach us on getting payment. instead of refinancing the car in my boyfriend's name or offering us payment options they repoed the car. I would not bank with them ever. I've also heard this happen to some else I knew who banked with them.....this place is a joke and their loan and branch manager are unprofessional and get rude when we asked to adjust payments.... I would not recommend this credit union ever unless you want to get a with a credit union who claims the will do anything to help....which they didn't and pride themselves in customer service!!!!Decatur Earthmover Credit Union Response

The credit union has been working with the member for many months on her accounts while they were experiencing difficulties. We strive to assist members when circumstances in their lives impact their ability to pay. However, when we agree to modifications to the original loan agreement and a consumer promises to make payments and then fails to the abide by the changes worked out with our collections department we have to take further action to protect our interests. When a member has multiple loans with the credit union and is delinquent on all of them, we have to apply the payments in a manner which will keep them as equally delinquent as possible. We cannot apply payments to one loan and allow another to be delinquent. We mail delinquency notices to members and the information also appears on the statements mailed to the member each month. Members are fully aware of the status of their loans and we inform them when the vehicles are at risk of being repossessed if corrective action is not taken. We sympathize with the members in this situation and have given them multiple opportunities to keep in good standing. Additionally, we have offered to let them redeem the vehicle by paying the missed payments and the costs of picking up their vehicle.
