            Attorney General Raoul's Office - Final Judgment and Consent Decree Entered

            The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below. 

            On 9/16/2022 Sherman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram agreed to a consent decree with the Illinois Attorney General entered by the court on that date.  The consent decree arose from an action by the AG to enforce the terms of a prior assurance of voluntary compliance created in 2016.

            The consent decree settles allegations of violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and various other laws.  The dealership agreed to change its advertising practices to conform to the Illinois Motor Vehicle Advertising Regulations and other laws relating to sales events, trade-in offers, discounts, rebates and prices.  Sherman also agreed to establish company policies to monitor compliance with the consent decree terms.

            The consent decree was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law.

            The dealership reached out to me about buying my Jeep Wrangler which I had on lease. As I was near termination of my lease (1 month remaining) I asked if I could turn it in early and not pay the remaining payment. I was told that I could. I turned the car into Sherman in April. When I returned it, I asked if I needed to do anything further and was told that I was all set. In June, I was informed by ******* that I had to make the remaining payments. Despite being in possession of the car for over six weeks, the dealership did not ground the lease or take ownership. It has taken over three months for the dealership to respond to my calls. When I finally received a formal response, I was informed that it was my fault and that the dealership did not take any responsibility. I would never have turned the car in early if I was informed that I would need to continue to make the payments. The dealership mislead me and failed to inform me of how they planned to handle the car.
