I attended for some minor medical treatment. After the initial consultation, the procedure was scheduled, but there was a delay to make sure that the procedure would be covered by insurance. When I arrived for the procedure, I was sure to inquire as to whether it would be covered and I was assured that it would be. Some time later I received a bill from Ochsner for $350! I disputed the charge on the grounds that, while I am not a lawyer, it appeared to be a violation of the *Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law* (La. R.S. 51:1401, et seq.) I called in early June to request and itemized bill. None arrived. I called again in mid-June, again requesting an itemized bill, both by mail and via e-mail. I got an e-mail, but with no bill attached. Eventually, a bill arrived in the mail. I called yet again at the end of June and was told the matter would be referred to "upper management" and was promised a response in seven to ten days. I called again on the 10th of July. 'Felicia' hung up on me. I called again and the call got dropped. Eventually, I was able to speak to someone in a position of authority who basically told me 'tough' and if the bill was not paid, they would send it to collections. I eventually paid the bill, but under protest. I raised the matter with the State Attorney General's office (Case *********). Ochsner choose not to respond at all. So, unless there are no other alternatives, I will avoid Ochsner in the future. I am still considering other courses of action over this matter.
