I had a written agreement to install vinyl plank floors in 3 rooms totaling 410 square feet, for $2200.00 (materials included). I paid half down ($1100.00) in advance. $900.00 of the $2200.00 was for the dining room. The job began on December 10, 2021 and it was expected to be completed within 2 days. The installer began making mistakes on the 2nd day. He had trouble locking the planks together and ultimately left some unlocked planks in the kitchen. On that same day, he also used a helper who appeared to be intoxicated. I notified Mr. Louis, but he failed to finish the job. On the 4th day, the installer had a family emergency and no one replaced him. Part of the kitchen floor was incorrectly installed and the hallway was never started. Mr. Louis was uncertain if an installer would return on the 5th day. Therefore, I spoke to Mr. Louis before hiring another installer, and he concurred. The 2nd company did an excellent job installing the floor; however, it costed significantly more than my contract with V&W Carpet. Mr. Louis agreed that I would pay him for the dining room only, with a two-year warranty. It was fair since I paid $1250.00 plus materials to finish the job, and his installer left some planks unlocked in the kitchen. It was a huge inconvenience for the tenants who are living at the house, as well as myself. The tenants were angry because they did not have access to the stove and refrigerator until late afternoon or early evening. I also spent valuable time and gas going back and forth to the house, to ensure that the job was being done. No reasonable company would take 5 days or more to install 412 sq ft of flooring. I paid $2750 total for the job that was supposed to cost only $2200.00. Therefore, my loss is $550.00. Yet, Mr. Louis expects me to pay him extra money. I did not receive a 2-year warranty the dining floor, as agreed. It's his responsibility, as owner, to take a loss due to poor workmanship and not finishing the job in a timely manner.
