I went into Truman Medical ER with severe nausea, diarrhea, and intense brain pain. In short my head felt like it was exploding. Obvious reason to test for meningitis at minimum.I was told it was a migraine. I get migraines, this was something else, given the severe nausea and increased anxiety, some kind of additional testing should have been done. This is what good doctors at a good hospital would do at basic. After reviewing my blood work I quickly realized I should NOT have been discharged. I shared with a friend that is a physician and he was astounded. Cut to a few months down the line and one additional episode of this extreme pain that induced vomiting and near blindness, I realized something was seriously wrong. I had been bitten by a tick. Likely that week. My original visit to Truman was not further investigated, and had it been, they would have discovered severe inflammation in my brain. I also had multiple infections which were obvious due to elevated white blood cell count and a depleted **** I should have been treated with IV antibiotics prior to being released, at minimum. Months later I have now been diagnosed with an aggressive and rapid moving arthritic Lyme infection, which is wildly common in Kansas City. I was in perfect shape prior to this. Walking 2-4 miles some days prior to that hospital visit. I now require some assistance to walk around the block. Again, all preventable had any Dr at Truman considered taking my extreme pain seriously and following up with CT Scan or a spinal tap.Again, the blood work showed severe infection and immune response. Not only did they fail to relay this to me, they told me I was fine. They lied. This is a teaching hospital yet no one was teaching and no one was listening. This hospital is might be ok for bullet wounds and broken bones, however the physicians and nursing staff are completely inefficient, under educated and have great expertise in gaslighting and ignorance.
