On March 1st, 2024, I adopted a cat from this shelter for $35. I was not notified of any health issues related to the cat, and was told via contract I have 7 days to notify the shelter of any issues. On March 5th, 2024, I ended up having to euthanize this cat. In almost $1000 of vet care later, we had to euthanize. The cat had severe stage 4 kidney failure, a grade 5/6 heart murmur, and severe muscle wasting. We had confirmation of this by 2 vets. There is no record of these health issues anywhere at the shelter, not even records that the veterinarian this animal saw at the shelter, did a physical exam. The shelter manager herself (*****) said shed be willing to help financially, but when it was time to pay, she refused and verbally abused ***************** in *****, ** (the second vet we saw, and ultimately, euthanized our cat at). I have reason to believe animal neglect is happening at this business, as evidenced by this situation. There is no reason this shouldnt have been caught sooner. A cat they swore was healthy, was suddenly terminal. The goal is not to get them shut down, but to enforce better care here. If I can receive even $300-400 back of what I spent caring for this cat that I only had for four days, that would be fine. My main concern is the animals. I have official records, from the shelter, from the 2 vets we saw. I also have 3 years experience as an assistant in veterinary ************** am a registered nurse. This neglect is unacceptable. The business has not officially reached out to me to explain, apologize, or offer support.
