On 9/6/24, I visited Dr. ************************* for the last time. I highly recommend that therapists stop referring black people to this man's office as a psychiatrist. I visited ******************** office every month for about 4-5 months. During this time, I was diagnosed with over 6 mental health issues and prescribed over six different medications each time I went. However, he never discussed what the medicines were for, nor did he discuss my diagnosis. Despite understanding the difference between a psychiatrist and a therapist, my sessions only lasted about 5-10 minutes each time I went. His entire staff was white, leading to misunderstandings whenever I visited.I was once charged for missing an appointment, even though I did show up. When I asked the administrator to tell me the number they had on file, it turned out to be incorrect. I never received a refund. My last visit was especially terrible. I needed a refill on some medication he prescribed to help me sleep and eat, but he didn't prescribe it to me. Instead, he quickly walked me to the exit and handed me a green flyer with a list of psychiatrists. 9/6/24, I wasn't able to go to the back unless I paid $140 on my balance, which I didn't have, and he was aware that I needed that prescription from his staff, which is why I set the appointment. I immediately had to call around to my family members to borrow money to see him after I told his staff they could withdraw the full balance at the end of the month. I am a full-time single parent, so things can get tight, but I am financially responsible for my debt and handle it well.I have never experienced such treatment from a healthcare provider's staff like this before, even though I have had a sickly life growing up. I do thank **************** for the referral list because I am now seeing a new psychiatrist and she has apologized for what I've been through. I will continue to fight for mental health. Love.
