DO NOT HIRE HIM! The only time his communication was timely was when he wanted a downpayment and final payment. Our door is a double mahogany, and was so worn that his job should have been easy to make it beautiful. All he had to do was concentrate on the prep—good, smooth, consistent sanding would have prepared this beautiful wood for an exquisite look. He did NONE of that. He SCRAPED the moldings around the 12 windows. He sanded the larger smooth wood sections—but some was smooth in the end, some was not. The stain was sanded off in some spots, not in others. He never sanded the moldings, so after stain was applied, the rough grain came up even more. He acknowledged that he was in a hurry to finish, and left our door with differing layers of finish. Compared to the inside of the same door, the outside looks worse than if we had attempted it ourselves. It was a big job and he was NOT capable. We had him return (finally). He lightly sanded the molding areas, but they are still rough, and now, having applied more stain to other parts (not all) of the door, the moldings look like they are made of different wood. He also put stain on ONE side of the frame, but not the top piece of wood. He repaired a crack with CLEAR caulk that will not hold stain, so the crack is visible. This door is a huge mess of different layers of stain, sanded and mostly not sanded pieces and needs to be completely stripped and restained. He charged us $1375 for this mess.
