On Friday 6/10 Aqua Paradise came to open my pool. They quoted me approximately $500 for combined labor and chemicals. First of all, the technicians were rude and dismissive to me. When I asked him to show me a few things about my pool system, he refused and implied I wouldn't be able to retain that information. They proceeded to open the pool, which involved removing the cover from the pool and attached spa, starting the pump and filter systems, and adding chemicals. They did not clean anything, which I had assumed was part of the $400 opening fee (higher than other local companies). They told me I would have to clean the filter soon, but did not tell me how. They left without any further comment. I received the invoice about 5 days later. I was surprised to find that I was charged an additional $150 for the attached spa (which incidentally, we do not use), and $65 in new skimmer baskets, even though there were existing skimmer baskets available in the pool housing. I was not asked or even notified about these additional charges by the technician. When I called to dispute these charges, the owner of the company was inflexible. He said even though the spa was part of the main pool system and would have required almost zero extra work, the technicians would have "had to pull quite a few plugs." The skimmer baskets he had no explanation for. Overall, this company was rude, overpriced, and uncommunicative and opaque about their pricing.
